Yeah I don’t think an hour and a half piece with a legit journalist is the same as some guys picking up their phones or opening up their laptops hitting record.
Maybe a little more difficult to use Zoom 14 years ago.

I'm beyond sick and tired of PC fans whining about this. They lost a coach, that happens. They aren't the first school that this happened to and the won't be the last.

I remember when Michigan, with a team capable of making a very deep run in the tournament, discovered days before the tournament began that their head coach was negotiating with another school (to the point where an agreement had been reached and an announcement would be made once Michigan's season was over) to become their head coach. Did they whine? No! They fired the culprit before the tournament began and went on to win the whole thing.

So he had an illicit affair. If this offense is that egregious they should have fired him for it, not whine about it happening and then cry about the role that played in his departure. I remember when Arkansas fired their head football coach once an illicit affair that he was involved in was discovered.

He misled them about his looking to leave. I remember when Cincinnati's head football coach, shortly before a bowl game in what was then their best season ever responded "It's silly season. Don't listen to the noise" when asked if he was interviewing with Notre Dame.

Hell, even schools at the top of the food chain aren't immune to things like this. Michigan just lost their head football coach to the NFL. When Miami was a cut above everyone else in college football they lost their head coach to the NFL three different times (Johnson, Ericson and Davis) and fourth (Schnellenberger) that thought he had an NFL job waiting for him.

Did they apologize to Fairfield for taking Cooley? To GM for taking English? Hell, every head coach comes from somewhere and it's normally at another school's expense.

They need to get over it.
Obviously hard to disagree with much of what you say BUT... fact is and it is a simple fact that he quit on his team at the worst possible time of the year last year... It's one thing to leave for another job and we should never begrudge anyone for taking a new job that offers lots more money and whatever misguided ideas he had about restoring the GTOWN mystique ( 4,500 fans in attendance for their game at home this past week..

He did the team and the school dirty.. He deserves to have the crap booed out of him and heckled for 2 hours... I think PC fans will get over it when they realize that Coach English is a step up for them..

And not for nothing...can you imagine someone poaching Hurley the way GTOWN did with Cooley..I'd imagine that this board would react the same way PC fans have

Providence by a few touchdowns. Hopefully the fans get their licks in respectfully and there's no crap getting thrown on the court or antics like that. Never liked him anyways, so I guess I wasn't as shocked as others when all the stuff came out last year. I like English way better and it's good to know I never hated Providence.. just their coach.

Are you sure it wasn't produced by PC fans?

There have been cooments, stories, etc. in newspapers, on social media and fan sites, going back for nearly nine months about how wild and intense it will be when Georgetown visits PC. Yeah, this is all one fan....
The Twitter account that made the doc is making a doc for every big east team…

Providence fans mad? Cooley going to have a bad weekend? I love it all.
Both/and for the win!
Well, he did have Cooley's face superimposed on a scrotum as his avatar for nearly a year. Whether that holds some kind of meaning or has any harmful affect doesn't matter.

Who else but 'has beens' would invest so heavily in who they think is more of a 'never-been.'

Tomorrow isn't anything more than game one of Providence College's passionate fans vs. Georgetown University's Ed Cooley, plus the Hoyas vs. the Friars on the basketball court.

Ed can wave to the crowd with a key to the city in his hand, and wear a Hometown Hero t-shirt beneath his suit.
It was a scum bag move and he proved himself to be a scum bag. On that point the fan base should be happy that they're rid of him, not angry that he left them.
Why not both?

All of this stuff below is just a repeat of your earlier argument, a vain & futile attempt to control something that will not and cannot be controlled by you or anyone else.

I'd tell you to "get over it,' but that'd be the same silliness that's got you puffing your chest, only on a far far smaller scale that might seem more plausible if I weren't more grounded in a realistic view and assessment of the situation and my ability to bend ge world to my will.

Yes, he left. Past that, you might as well be pumping a penny stock.
As far as his securing his next job before the season was over, it wasn't the first time someone pulled that and it won't be the last. When it happened at Michigan 35 years ago Bo Schembechler fired Bill Frieder and his replacement won the tournament. If Cooley putting his house on the market was so offensive, PC should have done what Michigan did when faced with the same situation.

What I believe warrants criticism is the PC fan base is behaving like this is something that has never happened before and that they've been wounded at a level beyond anything anybody has ever seen. They are overreacting at a massive level (producing the documentary, referring to him as Hitler). He left, get over it.

Why does this thread about a nobody school that no one outside of the state of Rhode Island even knows exist have 7 pages?
And nobody has even mentioned that the author of the article is talking about the wrong Benedict Arnold.

Personally, I never cared about Providence growing up because Cuse, GTown, Nova, and Pitt were all much bigger rivalries. I’ve never met a Providence fan in person either.

So yeah, I don’t know much outside of whatever public facing Cooley did which does not seem as big of a deal as the fan base has been blowing it up to be. I’m genuinely confused. It just seems like Cooley went for a better opportunity which he has every right to do like any other coach.
The feeling of betrayal must be overwhelming for PC fans.

When I saw the video of Cooley going on about how wonderful it was to be home coaching the hometown team, something he never could have imagined as a kid, it reeked of insincerity.

In our fast-paced digital world, the art of perfect spelling seems to be fading away. We encounter a myriad of spelling errors every day, from social media posts to even professional emails.

We've all come across someone whose spelling skills aren't the strongest. Maybe it's a friend, a family member, or even a boneyard poster . Their posts may be dotted with misspelled words, or their texts may take a second to decipher. While it's easy to dismiss these spelling errors as a lack of effort or intelligence, it's important to remember that everyone has unique strengths and weaknesses.

Moreover, English is a complex language with rules that often seem to contradict themselves. Some words have silent letters, others have multiple spellings, and some sound exactly alike but mean entirely different things. It can be confusing even for native speakers, let alone for those who are learning English as a second language.

Remember, language is an ever-evolving entity. It bends, twists, and changes with the times, so l’ll be patient with you when you’re still learning to navigate the intricate web.

How apt that within a paragraph dedicated to humble recognition of my limited ability to control people, places, and things, I mistapped the keyboard and didn't notice I'd done so. What appeared as "ge" was intended to be "the."

Thanks for caring enough to call the error to my attention. If I could go back and edit it, I would do so for all readers, but I'm delighted that I could bring you to greater clarity. If anyone else benefits from this, so much the better. And if there are errors of this type elsewhere in that post or this one or any others, I can only wish that others will be so kind in alerting me.

I'll be in the car driving to a party for the 2nd half of tomorrow's game and I'm still bitter about the end of my team's NFL season so not too excited for those games. So that means today's game will be my one chance to sit down, watch some sportsball and drink some beers. Should be a good one.

This isn't just "some coach leaving a school." Cooly is a Providence kid. From the city. RI Player of the Year twice at a HS in Providence. When he got signed to PC from Fairfield, it created a massive buzz around the program. The fan base rejoiced and swelled up to the biggest it had been in years, maybe bigger than it ever was. Then he won the BE regular season. Every PC fan was ready to kiss his ass and sleep with him - male or female. lol. They thought PC hoops was back and ready to shine with their hometown boy at the helm. Then it turns out his house was on the market before the season ended and he was still talking like a long-term coach. Then he bails and left them high and dry. For a program that had no promise to one that had so much to having it ripped from them. They are furious. They took this personal, and they are drunk and scummy to begin with. Should be great TV tomorrow.
That may all be true, however, he has won 3 NCAA Tournament games in 17 Seasons. He did them a favor by leaving. The ceiling will be much higher under a really good coach.

Like you friarj but explain to me how working for #6 would point to any insecurity? I’m waiting….
It’s desperation. He’s got nothing left. Everything I’ve said hits home with him and it hurts.

Enjoy your Super Bowl today against an 8-11 team. We have another title to go out and get.
