I think Pitino should stick to basketball. Jay is not a bad choice but he is a basketball guy. We need someone who really gets how football works. Jay is smart so I am sure he can pick it up. It would not be so bad to get someone fresh like Jay who is more Larry Scott like than say a guy like Marinatto. BE can do a lot worse than Jay Bilas.
I dont mind it. He made a good point last season that the only reason the acc is poaching the big east is bc the big east is better than the acc and they're threatened
A big yes to Jay Bilas. He has always been one of the few announcers who was Big East friendly so he wouldn't be faking it. He would be a great ambassador for the league.
I like the idea of getting a guy who is known to the public. When he speaks people will listen with respect. A respected voice is something the league desperately needs.
Pitino seems to have plenty of BE suggestions. Problem is, Pitino will be gone just as soon as another conference invites Louisville.
As far as Bilas, nice hoops choice, but unknown regarding football. Bilas is quite successful as a hoops commentator, plus in his law practice. I doubt he would accept the BE commish position as the BE will eventually be comparable to the A-10 especially if Louisville, Cinn., UConn, Rutgers, & ND leave. He's too smart to jump on a sinking ship.
A very interesting choice. But would Bilas actually want it? Doesn't it sort of feel inevitable that the BE is eventually going to blow up? SDSU, Boise State, SMU, USF - Good grief, the only part of the country not represented is Alaska and Hawaii.
Judging by his tweets, it does not seem like Bilas is taking it serious. Earlier he tweeted something like if he were Big East comish he would make Raftery in charge of hospitality so the Big East tournament could be open bar. Thats pretty funny right there
Bilas would be a terrific choice - don't care if he's a basketball guy. It's not about football, per se, but TV and $ and he has considerable media experience. On the other hand, can't see why he'd really want the job.
Bilas is an attorney and I'm sure he is smart enough to pick up what he has to know about media negotiations and law. Why he would be interested is puzzling.
Exactly what we need...the Big East is getting killed, absolutely killed, over football so we want to select a basketball guy as Commissioner...you know Syracuse, Pitt, West Virginia, Boston College, Miami and Virginia Tech all left because of football, right? And the Big East Commissioners were all basketball guys, right? So it just makes sense to make the new Commissioner yet another basketball guy...only in the Big East would someone even suggest such a thing...
To me, the very idea that someone takes concept even semi-seriously tells you all you need to know about the big East and why we need to move heaven and earth to get out of it.
