Basically every great rock band in history is from England and they get George Michael and The Spice Girls for the closing ceremonies, what the....

Cut them some slack.

A healthy dose of them are dead and there's only so many times you can trot out Paul McCartney's remains.

The freaking videos are creepy. John Lennon...fine. David Bowie....huh? What? I'm sure he's at home googling himself right now to see if he's dead.

My kids don't even know who the spice girls are, never mind the other dinosaurs.

That's was George Michael???...I thought they just couldn't get the rest of the Village People...

The Spice Girls were a fad for a year or two of course your kids wouldn't know them but if you are a good father you should be doing your job and introducing then to all those old "dinosaurs." Most of the great British musicians are dead? I'm not going to list all the ones that are still alive because it would take me several hours.

So, um, I don't think Great Britain should ever be allowed to host an Olympics again. Or at the very least, they should not be in charge of the opening and closing ceremonies.

At least we could understand what was going on since the olympics were held in an English speaking country this year. The opening/closing ceremonies are always a cultural event of the host city. If you remember the last 2 summer games in Beijing and Athens, there wasnt one word of english spoken in the ceremony and we had no idea who any of the entertainers were.

My wife and I were excited about the prospect of seeing Bowie with the way they were unveiling supermodels. Then the models walked up the runways and...no Bowie. And the Annie Lennox lip sync was just dumb.

And to me Jessie J can do no wrong.

She did well with her own song but she's no Freddie Mercury.

Used to be my favorite band before they came out with "Hysteria".

Perspective is an amazing thing.
For example, I'd consider it child abuse to expose my children to the Spice Girls.
It would take your several hours to list all living great British rock stars? Really? I don't bandy the word "great" around too much, but when I do, I don't hang it on many things.
I could list every band I consider "great" that has ever played in about 10 minutes, from anywhere in the world.

Never knew who Jessie J was but do now........and I like it.......

Blowing up the Batmobile was as whacked as BLUEDOGHOUSE's posts as was most of the event....

Pet Shop Boys? Wow....where was the Human League?

Freddie Mercury likeness revving up the crowd was a little creepy too......some of the athletes had to be drunk to be dancing to some of the crap which was being pranced out there........

The American women looked much hotter in their outfits for some reason than when they were competing......so did the Brits.........

In 2016 there will be hot women everywhere as the Brazilians are sweet......at least at the Mardi Gras and Electric Blue they are....LOL

I thought it was great. A lot of those acts continued to be big for years in the UK after their US hits stopped coming. It wasn't our Olympics after all. Imagine if they put "and no religion, too" on a jumbotron in the US. We would be on red alert right now.

From a USA perspective, it’s easy to compare the Pet Shop Boys to the Human League and see them strictly as a mid/late 80‘s synth pop band that came and went. But the PSB have continued to have top 20 hits in the UK and other European countries right up to the present day. So from the organizing country’s perspective, they’re huge. I read somewhere that they have close to forty "top 20 hits" in the UK.

I'm not knocking either as I liked that stuff.......grew up on it......my first drive to Spring Break Ft Lauderdale was when "Don't You Want Me Baby" was hot!!! LOL..........just most of the athletes were probably like who the duckk is that?

It really wasn't bad and as Waqy put it, it was good as it was their arena........

No Boy George?:)

I remember seeing a Queen concert from like '81 on Palladia and thought "Freddie Mercury could be the best performer ever." So, Jessie J was ok and thought who could they have used?

Noel Gallager's voice sounded spent and Spice Girls were decent, although a couple got beefy (Baby, Scary) and always thought Sporty was not decent.

She did well with her own song but she's no Freddie Mercury.

I was hoping for Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Motorhead.

From what hear Def Leppard is not very big in the UK. They were much bigger in North America than back home.
