I was thinking about starting a thread like this when I saw the “rap” post about J Cole. Who the heck is that?

Run DMC
Wu Tang
Eric B and Rakim
Grand Master Flash
Kurtis Blow

Now you kids get off of my fricken lawn with that new nonsense.

Adding Ice T, Terminator X, Dr Dre, Boogie Down Productions, UTFO, Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprosy, US3, Afrika Bambaata, Force MDs, EU, Schooly-D to many already mentioned. I have small amounts of T.I, Kanye, Jay-Z, Eminem, Tupac, and Beasties more recently.

My old person's question is for Spotify, Pandora, Google Music, etc. stations and playlists to update me without seeking out individually from the other thread's recommendations. Or a great TuneIn radio program .

Just celebrated Record Store Day with my daughter and went to a local record store that was participating; among my scores was a 12" of Biggie's "Juicy" and "Unbelievable," with several remixes and instrumental On black and clear swirl vinyl.

Backspin was a preset for me on Sirius and on the way back from the store we just gave a first listen to the new station in its place, Rock the Bells, curated by LL Cool J. It was a nice stretch, with some great Beasties, and Gang Starr's "Mass Appeal."

A group that never gets respect or mentioned often but a lot of people have sampled their stuff: The Beatnuts

Big L, scarface, 4 horsemen, gangstar, black star (mos def & kweli), raekwon, big pun, mobb deep, krs one, snoop, Dre, ice cube, tupac, biggie, nas, Jay z, tribe, De la soul, outkast

So many more artist that I know I'm leaving out. Rap nowadays couldn't carry the 90s jock strap
