Knicks getting killed in press and on air but why? Durant has to sit for one of the 4 seasons right? So that makes him get $46 million for every year he plays rather than $ 35 million. Not only that but at $35 million he would be uninjured and a case could be made had he not blown the Achilles. Let them try to rebuild with Barrett and younger players.
Because Porzingis, Barrett, and their other young players is actually not a bad core if Barrett works out. Now they have Barrett, and a bunch of false Giannis hope. They also should've used their cap space to absorb bad contracts for picks, but instead they got a bunch of "meh" players.

Kawhi is being kind of a jerk about this. He is making three franchises and all these players wait for his decision. That is pretty obnoxious, and I would be pissed if I was Lebron, AD, Gasol or any of the players on the Lakers, Clippers, or Raptors.

I’m not disagreeing but isn’t this year unique in how quick everyone else signed? I feel like in other years free agents waited longer, spent more time taking meetings etc

As much as I like making fun of the Knicks, this is not a bad approach. Show that they can win 30 or 35 games, and maybe they will be more attractive for free agents again. I also think that the draft is only part of a team building process, and becoming less important over time.

I may end up being very wrong on this but I have a feeling in 5 years we're going to look back and think the Knicks won the Porzingis trade big time. The list of 7'3+ basketball players who don't have significant knee and foot problems is pretty small. Of course that does beg the question why they drafted him in the first place.

You're probably right but there is also a chance you're looking at the best duo in basketball for the next decade.

The Knicks are clueless and inept for many reasons, trading Porzingis is not one of them. That was not a decision they voluntarily made

It's all a part of the same problem, you have to ask why the franchise playing on the biggest stage in basketball can't attract a star and why they can't hold onto the only one they drafted since Ewing.

Why would Memphis buy him out? What's in it for them???
It's basically buying a 1st round pick. You take on the contract if GS adds a pick and then cut him and still get to play all your young guys

Why not just keep him to mentor the young ones off the court, then do him a favor midseason if he behaves & is a good teammate? They already have their pick, so unless Andre gives them millions of his salary back voluntarily, I would keep him for now.

They definitely could do that, can't hurt to wait. But very few contending teams can fit a $17M contract at the deadline which is why those guys tend to get bought out and not traded

2011 college player of the year Jimmer Freddette collected $1400 (10,000 yuan) as MVP of the Chinese Basketball Association, while Kemba Walker gets a contract of 4 years, $140 million as an NBA free agent.

Most buyouts happen when the player gives up most of his contract so he can play somewhere else, usually with the belief that his next contract will be bigger than the one that was bought out. A player slated to make $5 million takes a $1 million buyout and then signs for a MLE somewhere else for $5.8. That kind of thing.

The Hawks buyout of Carmelo a few years ago was definitely unusual, and the Hawks were tanking. Now that tanking doesn't work, I don't see why a team would pay the majority of a contract to have a player not play. It is cash out the door, and it counts against the team's cap. That team will also have to pay the replacement.

I imagine if Iquodala asked Memphis to buy his contract out for $2 million, they might listen. I suspect that if he asks for $15 million, they will tell him to show up at camp ready to play.

Wesley Matthews and Enes Kanter were both bought out last year from $18M contracts and signed minimum deals. It may not happen a ton but to say it doesn't happen is wrong

The Knicks are idiots. They were tanking so they thought eating the remaining portion of $36 million of contracts was a good idea. How did that work for them?

It is also a lot cheaper to buyout a contract after the trade deadline than it is to buyout a contract now.

Bucks

C Lopez
F Antetekuonmpo
F Middleton
G Hill
G Bledsoe

G Matthews
F Ilyasova
C Lopez
F/G Connaughton
G/F Divencenzo
F Wilson
F Brown

Lauer - probably going to be released or bought out.

The two losses were Brogdon and Mirotic. Brogdon missed 18 games and 2 rounds of the playoffs. Mirotic was a late season pick up. Both are replaceable, and Mirotic actually kind of sucked in the playoffs. Matthews is a great pickup. He has lost a step, but the Bucks don't need him to penetrate, he just has to hit 3's when defenses collapse on the Freak. Robin Lopez was a good pickup.

This is a very good team with a deep bench. The are unstoppable offensively when Middleton is hitting his shots, and they are one of the best teams defensively in the NBA. They have a great bench that can provide a lot of minutes and even give starters days off. The key will be keeping George Hill healthy, because the Bucks can't go deep in the playoffs without him. Bledsoe consistently chokes at crunch time, and may not start in the later rounds of the playoffs if the Bucks make a deep run.

The Bucks were young and ran into a more experienced opponent. There is still room for improvement with a lot of the players, and another 55-60 win season seems likely.

Jalen Rose seems to believe (99% confidence) that based on what he has heard, Kawai will go back to Toronto on a 2 year deal.

The analysis was something like this

1) Clippers do not have enough on the team that a Kawai team would be a strong contender in the tough West

2) On the other hand, LA has too much and he would be overshadowed to a too high level

I hope this is the case. A super team LA Lakers would destroy any intrigue in the NBA,

P.S. Normally post only on the women's forum but this is the only place to talk about this stuff.

Does LA make the playoffs if they don't get Kawhi?
Golden State, Denver, Houston, Portland, Utah are all definitely ahead. OKC and San Antonio are probably close, though I'd also put them ahead so that's already 7. I'd put them in the mix with Dallas and New Orleans for the 8 seed assuming Kawhi is a Raptor in this scenario.

So in short, probably not
