OT Kevin Durant is Becoming a Head Case

How has this thread not been punted to the pool yet? The takes are flaming hot. Someone said, "I come home from a hard week and I just want to be entertained I don't want to hear about their politics" What kind of logic is this? What about athletes are people is so hard to understand?

Everyone knows the only allowed male emotions are anger and sports-related joy, and even then, only for 14 seconds. That's the rules, guys. Sorry.
List off a few notorious “tough guys” from NBA history for me.

Yep, the NFL is the model of decay of pro sports...and that demise is its own separate entertainment to watch.

Meh. It's not "old man politics." It's more, "can't I just enjoy this game that I watch without having politics smashed in my face?"
It's about losing something, not about political disagreement.
I frankly don't care what's up all the athlete's and singer's and actor's collective rectums. Just don't care. Don't care if they're pro this or pro that. Anti this or Anti that. Love the prez or hate the prez.
I don't care. That's the issue. I don't care what they think, anymore than they care what I think.
I completely laud them for their inspired protest of . . . whatever. I don't care. The world would be a more livable place if more people, famous and not, would stand up and peacefully make their point.
So, for me, it's not about whatever issue is being raised. I'm very happy to hear all sides of any issue.

It's the fact that I bust my rear end all week long, I vet out the issues of the day to the extent I choose, in my own head and among family and friends, and the entire purpose of me sitting down to watch UConn or a Pats game or the random Cavaliers game is . . . to be entertained.
It's that simple.
When they insist on inserting politics - of any kind - into my entertainment, it's less entertaining for me.

On the other hand, I find the demise of professional sports in this country to be long overdue and refreshing, so I'm enjoying watching the NFL eat its own legs.
Jesus it’s not like they’re saying their beliefs mid game. For some reason the old men yelling at the clouds think that when they see a quote somewhere they believe it’s a personal attack and their way of life is under attack. It’s not and you’re just paranoid. Don’t like it? Don’t listen and stop bitching.

.-.
Their political activity doesn’t interfere with your enjoyment of the game in any way.
Can you be any more presumptuous? You literally think that you've got things so figured out that you can tell me what affects my enjoyment. Incredible lack of perspective.
Your response is very typical of the intellectual laziness that has overwhelmed this country. You don't like the fact that I don't like what you like, so I must have X [evil] opinion or be lying. Your viewpoint is simply - if you agree with the goal of the protests, you support the protests, else you don't believe in the goal, and you are a racist. Simple, easy, and wrong.

I don't want to hear about any politics from my entertainment venues. Not mine, not any.

What bugs you Ern, is you're the kind of person who likes to ram your opinions down everybody's throat because you're so cock-sure that you've got it all figured out and that anybody who doesn't agree with you is a trailer-dwelling racist, homophobic ogre.

Based on your post about Iguodala, it’s pretty clear that you just don’t like the opinions being expressed.
You're being lazy. It's what defines your rants on here.
I think the point being expressed by the NFL players is, like most points, based on some truth. Certainly there is (and always will be) racism, and certainly that racism does, often, manifest itself in police abuse (or murder) of young black men. That's the truth, and it should be openly discussed and mitigating solutions sought.
But there are many other issues - as important or moreso - that also could be addressed.
U.S. involvement in Syria. U.S. bombings of 3rd world countries. U.S. trajectory toward use of AI against citizens. U.S. citizen spying. I don't want to hear about any of those either, whether the protest is for or against my position.
It's really that simple, and I'm not sure whether it's your intellectual laziness or your incapacity to see that you don't have a monopoly on moral reasonableness.

What kind of logic is this? What about athletes are people is so hard to understand?
It's easy to understand. But it's lazy. You're saying, "they're people, so they get to express their opinions."
If you went to a comedy routine and the guy got into politics, would you go back?
If you went to Dollar General, and the cashier gave a pro/anti abortion salute prior to ringing you up?

The athletes are people with opinions and they can express those opinions.
The fans who pay them are people with opinions, and they can choose not to pay them.

Can we all agree on that?

Keep me out of your flaming hot takes.

Oh so you just want them to dance. You sound unbelievably entitled. Athletes are people not just your entertainment
Actually, I don't want them to do anything. Not at all. They should do exactly what they want (as long as they are not (physically) hurting any
body). They should say exactly what they want, when they want, using whatever words (non barred!) they want.
Of course they are not "just" my entertainment. Except when I'm paying them to entertain me. Of course, just like every other job in the world. I'm not paying my doctor to get his views on NSA spying, so shut up and do the doctoring. If not, I'll find another doctor.
If athletes want to inject their personal politics into the product they're selling, that's great for them. Kudos. But then they've changed the product. Right? Very simple. The product used to be basketball. Now it's basketball and whatever is up somebody's @$$. Different product. Different demand. Different willingness to pay.

Don't we all agree on this?

Sweet, William F. Buckley rose up from the dead to post this gem.
Thank you for the compliment.
Sorry, didn't know that even the boneyard is a "safe space" for your kind.

Yeah, probably.
One of the greatest features of the boneyard for me is when I forget how over-the-top, in-your-face, intellectually superior, morally-self-righteous, hard left CT is. Funny thing is, I thought that was normal until I left CT in my late 20s. LOL. Thanks for the memories Ern.

The "hard left." God you're a cliche. And not even an entertaining one.

But yeah, your meltdown in this thread has proved how much you don't care.

He lives in Cali and pretty sure he's never lived in CT.

Thank you for the compliment.

Step into the Cesspool my friend. Lets see how safe a place you think this is.

Yes I'm better than you and I know it.

Yes I'm better than you and I know it.

Not only are you better than him and you know it, which is freekn awesome, but...the absolute best part is...you know what's best for him and how he should think. Now, THAT'S Nutmeggin'!

Yes, you too.

Big Ern, he of mighty post count! I just called you painfully typical and your response was that I'm a cliche. Unoriginal. Which is akin to your intellectual laziness.
True, I've never been thrown out of a basketball arena.

It takes a man with boundless sagacity, equanimity, and intelligence to become so overwrought over a grown man's game that he presents enough of a threat or nuisance to be removed from the arena for the benefit of the other 20,000 fans.
You keep it all figured out Ern.
You're not the first person to struggle mightily to fit me into one of your simple worldview categories.
