Was on campus some years ago but it was dark (MBB Game). I was there during the day last week and was blown away by all the new buildings. I could see the skeleton on the Student Union, but it must be almost twice the size it used to be. Buildings where there used to be open space.

For all fellow ex-students, when’s the last time you were on campus and what struck you.

I go back every summer with @boog204 to perform with our old uconn bar band at Huskies. The thing that struck me most is how the social center of campus has shifted. All of the social activity (parties, night life) was centered in north/northwest: x lot, rugby house, civic pub, Ted's, huskies when I was a student. Now, except for Ted's, that area is a ghost town and downtown storrs is where it all happens it seems. But I think that carriage house and celeron are still party places.

It's been a few years and last I went I went to Teds which is somehow an even bigger dump than I remember it. To give you an idea how much it has changed since I was there as a student I watched them lower the very top of Gampel onto the dome as I walked to the library.

The first time I was up there where my daughter was 21, she asked if we wanted to grab a pregame drink at Ted's. As we walked in, she said "You've been here before, right?" LOL.

I pointed to the men's room and said "The last time I was here, I took a leak in the garbage can in there." She said "Why would you do that?" and I said "Because there were two guys whizzing in the toilet, one at the urinal and one at the sink. The garbage can seemed like the next logical spot."

Is Ted's the only bar over that way now?

A few years ago. I stayed at the Graduate Hotel. The hotel bar filled up with professors who started trickling in at 3 PM. The new rec center was much nicer than what we had in the early 70s.

Parents still live in the area so I'm up there a few times a year at minimum. It still is amazing though that construction and expansion/rebuilding has been pretty much non stop since '96.

I was a Jungle freshman in '68. That's one of the few places I recognize now. Hadn't been through campus in a few years, and stopped on our way from Maine to Florida last weekend. Spent two nights at the (now Hilton property) Graduate Hotel. Great place! But, I had to ask my wife who also attended UConn '71 & '72, (we married on 9/11/1971) "which way do I go here?". "That's a dead end?" You can't drive by Jorgenson anymore!"

Geez, we lived in Mansfield Center for 30 years; our kids both graduated from E.O. Smith, we had season tickets to Men BBall and football (since '76) & Women BBall and until we retired: I have to ask which way do I turn here??? "Where the hell is Dog Lane?, "That's where The Disc used to be." "They have a Price Chopper!", etc., etc. The outdoor hockey rink where my kids used to skate is now an arena!

The good news is we were very able to find the (New) Dairy Bar and had our old favorite Hot Fudge Sunday. Also, hit Willington Pizza and the Willimantic Brewing Co. as well. Too bad we arrived on campus a day after Colben Landrew was there, we might have run into him......

It’s filled with people younger than me now.

I get lost every time I go back.

Took a class on a field trip, and I couldn't find Iron von der Maiden.

Felt gluttonous and wanted copious amounts of ice cream? Repeatedly missed the turn into the Dairy Bar, and a cow mocked me for my ineptitude.

Every year we've done this gig? Lost or taken a weird turn into some area I've never seen before.

Took my daughter to relive past glory? Totally lost and turned around, and ended up confused in a giant food court in the SU.

The only thing I can consistently find is my old disgrace of a dorm, West, which, for some reason, is still standing. I get serious Holden Caulfield in the museum vibes when I roll through there.

Well written and accurate. You should teach English.

I don't get there often but I check googlemaps.

Late '80s. On my way to a rocks for jocks exam I slipped and fell on the steep muddy trail behind the moon. I was so full of mud I turned around and went back to my dorm. We were able to drop our lowest exam grade so that was that. Mud between the Co-op and AS 55. The grad field. Mud everywhere. You guys going to the hill? Sure, let's go. watch the football game for free drinking from someone's keg. Sunday afternoon, let's go catch the soccer game, standing room only. hoops at Greer for a few dollars. There was a beer hall in the Student Union and a grill that cooked real burgers before Jonathans arrived and served crap worse than mcdonald's.

Today's campus looks amazing in comparison.

I'm surprised by how much goes on in Downtown Storrs too. Most of our ball team is there
I graduated in '78. The old South Campus is long gone. Haven't been back in about 20 years and no intent to as it's unrecognizable to me.

What the hell is "Downtown Storrs"?

I graduated in 88 and was a campus tour guide and freshman orientation leader. I loved the old country campus and knew pretty much all of it. Now I know very little outside of Gampel.
When I went on my tour they took us to a dorm, still don't know which one. Tour guide was a lady student. Took us up to one of the floors, kids, parents etc. and one of the students was cooking in the hallway with a hotpot in tighty whities only. Never saw someone move so fast.

Across Rt. 195 from campus.
