OT: Harford scene biggest joke ever?

Hartford is a truly terrible city but this isn't the city's fault. This conference makes absolutely no geographical sense so to expect good crowds is naive. Not a fair critique/
 
Bars, restaurants and hotels within walking distance makes for a great host city, in my opinion.

I'm sorry, but with 20+ good bars and restaurants downtown and West Hartford Center a few minutes away, I think this whole Hartford whine fest is just ridiculous. What do basketball fans do in between games in major cities? Most of us sit in bars watching March Madness on tv. Hartford provides plenty for that.

In NY or Boston we walk miles to go to some restaurants or we take a cab/Uber. No different to grab a ride to West Hartford Center.
 
Most of the teams in the AAC can't get a crowd to their home games let alone have them travel. Doesn't matter the venue. CT makes sense on the gamble that UConn will play most days. But Mohegan would be the better option.

Honestly what more is there to do at Mohegan as opposed to Hartford? There are more restaurants and bars in Hartford then in Mohegan. You can walk to all of them or Uber to WH Center if you want. If you wanna go anywhere outside Mohegan you'd likely need a car or pay a hefty fee for transportation. What would you do at Mohegan after you go to a few restaurants? This is even more true for folks who don't gamble. The casino is fun for a night out but not a place I'd pay a lot of money to fly to and stay at.
 
The whole upper bowl was vacant and virtually every seat in the lower not between the court endlines. How many people do you think that could be?

I said 3-4k, it's maybe 5k.

I saw the loser Mayor (Bronin) on TV Friday AM and he was talking about 50k people coming in for the AAC tourney.

Did anyone see a few minutes of the ECU-SMU game? I doubt there were more than 200 people in the whole place. It was hugely embarrassing. They literally were playing in an empty gym.

What some of our basketball centric fanbase doesn't understand is most of the schools in this league are FB, not BB schools. Houston, SMU, Tulsa, Tulane, USF, UCF, East Carolina and Navy are all FB schools. Cincinnati used to be a BB school but in recent history FB has become as important if not more important. You're left with a few BB schools, Memphis, Temple and us.

Hey, Hartford isn't so bad. Once the RockGoats start playing that will be good. Small city downtowns have a tough time especially when it's 12 degrees out.

I think it is Yard Goats. What a disaster that has been so far with the stadium. I hope they do well with the investment but many do not.
 
Who will travel into Hartford go watch bad minor league baseball affiliated with a team 2,000 miles away.

Only winners are police & spiking OT for the non-event event and busway drivers driving empty buses.

I will go to Hartford to watch baseball, hockey and basketball. And I happen to love cops and firemen, especially firemen. (I'm married to one). What do you do for a living, JSM??
 
The problems with the AAC tournament are even more evident considering that the old Big East tournament, at MSG, was the best conference tournament.

Christ at least pretend to be objective - Chapel Hill is always well spoken of as a college town and it pretty great - it's better than Storrs. It's also better that almost every other college town in the country.
 
They will get huge OT because they will staff it at capacity levels even though 10-15% of it will be filled.

Based on the latest state budget it seems like all taxpayers are funding that thing and only winners are Hartford workers getting OT.

It won't have any economic impact. It will run at a huge loss.

Downtown Hartford and the Front Street area has improved vastly over the past ten years. You have the Bushnell, Infinity Music Hall ,River Front Plaza, the Science Center, Wadsworth Atheneum and plenty of good dining. Most people who criticize it are not aware of all it has to offer. Or like some have their own personal issues and are afraid of some diversity.
