Too bad. I miss the "Gross and Wigglings" from my kid days in Connecticut. We don't get those good local dogs in Minneapolis

Is Walmart going to start selling 2-foot long hot dogs now?

Lew Rome former Chair of the Board of Trustees at UConn lived on the bottom of Kenmore Road in Bloomfield. The Weigel estate was further up on Kenmore Rd. I have so many stories all so positive of this family.Back in the day such great memories were created. hmmmm

Although reasonable minds disagree Grote & Weigel hot dogs were the best comfort food in the world.

I'm more pissed off that Doogies won't have the 2 foot dog anymore. I finished one of those bad boys a few months back and was planning to make an attempt at another one soon.

.-.
G & W dogs were good but when I worked in the Hartford area I would always prefer Mucke's; our saying was "No one F$%&$ with the Muck"

Hummel's
Hummels are OK as are G&W. The best are Black Bear nc hot dogs sold at Shop Rite and a few other places, they come closest to the old Roessler brand which was the king IMHO.

I am sure whatever restaurant served the two-foot long hot dogs will be able to find another vender willing to stuff an animal casing with 24" of ground-up livestock ass holes for your dining pleasure.

Noooooooooooo! G&Ws are the only dogs we buy. My inlaws load up every time they come up here from Florida. We use to buy Mucke's. I guess we'll be back to buying them.

Kudos to that sausage stuffer who would not allow his kids to throw away perfectly pink pork anuses.

If you read the article you would see that the owner of Doogies has contacted dozens of meat manufacturers and has been unable to come across one who would do so.

They made the best hot dogs in the world and I've been eating them for over 60 years and they are partially responsible for my finely tuned athletic body. They were becoming harder to find in supermarkets. G & W going out of business was something I thought I'd never see; like Uconn and the Red Sox winning championships. Oh well, life goes whatever is left of it.

Don't worry Huskyrob is going to head to Shop Right for the Black Bear Dogs. They probably cater to a younger generation. I think the Black Bear dogs could be a hit if we sponsor$ a cookout at my place for the UConn basketball team and/or some future recruits like Nerlens Noel.

The hell with the hot dogs. I'm addicted to their andouille.

I liked Weigel's better tha Muckies. We had them at a couple of tailgates. I guess I should have bought them more often.

Never been a fan of Hummels. Martin Rossol out of Hard Hittin NB is solid. Another name to ask for at the deli counter for home BBQs is Deutschmachers

I grew up a few blocks away from the G & W plant on Granby St. nears Bowels Park Project and had a friend who worked there after school. The plant was immaculate. The only thing I remeber about Muckies is that they sponsored the Tex Pavel Western movie show for kids.

Never ends........fn spit out my water reading this......just a way with words!! LOL

The butchery in east Windsor makes their own hot dogs in house and they are some of the best around

Went to college with one of the kids. Freshman year a bunch of us were hanging out and he cuts one. Two floors were cleared out for over an hour, each floor about 200 feet long. Now that is a testimony to those dogs.

Mucke's was on Main St (corner of Sanford St near Nelton Court) in Hartford's North End... its now a church!

Anyone been to the Country Diner in Enfield? They have a special for a 16" hotdog or sausage. It is really good. More meat to it than the Doogie's 2-footer.

Looks like Grote & Weigel will be back in business starting Monday 2/27/2012.

All the stars are aligning now. Please don't under estimate the significance of this news! The best hot dogs in the world are back and so are the Huskies almost at the same time! Go figure...YUMMY!
