OT Greatest Single Lines From Movies

'So what Jefferson was saying was 'Hey! You know, we left this England place because it was bogus. So if we don't get some cool rules ourselves, pronto, we'll just be bogus too.'

'Charlie Wilson: You're no James Bond.
Gust Avrakotos: You're no Thomas Jefferson, either. Let's call it even.'

there is a lot of humor in this very serious movie. a lot.

'You know you've reached rock bottom when you're told you have character flaws by a man who hanged his predecessor in a military coup.'

.-.
“If 1200 men couldn't hold a defensive position this morning, what chance have we with 100?”

“Even a man who is pure of heart and says his prayers by night may become a wolf when the wolf bane blooms and the moon is shining bright.”

"Take your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape!"

"I love the smell of napalm in the morning."

"I fear all we have done is awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."

"Good luck." (Taken)

And here are a couple of cheats more than one line:

"You aren't too smart, are you? I like that in a man."

"Do I ice her? Marry her? Which one of these?"

grodin tells di niro 'i can't fly. i suffer from aviaphobia.'
di niro tells grodin ' well, if you don't shut up, pretty soon you're gonna suffer from fistaphobia.'
and
jimmy serrano: 'I don't want to get another phone call like this because if I do I'm gonna get on a duck*ing plane and I'm going to blowtorch the both of you.'
and, the money quote,

I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit...it's the only way to be sure.
Great choice.
He took Ellen's advice.
In the director's cut, there's a scene with Ellen's daughter, which you don't see in the original theatrical release.

pardon if already posted..

"in about 5 minutes, your heart's gonna be in the wrong place."

I haven't seen the movie, but I enjoyed the book.
It was a fun movie. And in real Anthony Quinn and Anna Magnani hated each other. So any of the scenes that they fight, it's kind of real. They aren't acting!:)

I'm sure though that the book was much better as the usually are.

uggggh! this thread is about 'the greatest single lines" huh?

it's pathetic that so many of these selections are so far off that mark. some posters -- not all -- have come up wanting. it's a terrible blow to the BY reputation as a witty and insightful forum. YUK!

'Sometimes I wonder, when it gets too quiet up there, if You are thinking, "What kind of mischief can I play on My friend Tevye?'

Over the Rainbow, I almost guessed it. Also thought it might be White Christmas too
Also voted the greatest song of the 20th century by the Recording Industry Association of America. Important to remember that the movie came out during the Depression and it was set in Kansas in the Dust Bowl right next to the Okies of Grapes of Wrath fame. It is a song of hope that reverberated across America as people struggled to be able to survive.
