Just made a spectacular catch in RF to end an inning and then led off the next inning with a home run that went about 500 feet (slight exaggeration, but not much - over the fountains in left field in Kansas City and the outfielders never moved).

He's 4-4 with two doubles (one off the wall that just missed), a homer, 5 runs, three RBI. He had a slow start, but he's looking legit lately. Actually now four straight games with a homer (including a two-HR game).

Friends thought it was dumb of me picking him up so early in my draft, well....

Now who's laughing?

He's going to be a star, not too many 5 tool players anymore.

Has UConn ever had a baseball player as good as he appears to be projecting?

No, only guys I can think of who had a pretty big mlb impact is Walt Dropo who won rookie of the year and Charles Nagy had some all-star appearances.

For position players, I think Walt Dropo would be the standard bearer. Played in an All-Star game. Not a terribly high bar.

Charles Nagy had a good career as a pitcher. Had a chance at a Cy Young in his best year but finished slow that September.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Springer is the first player in franchise history to score five runs with two doubles, a homer, a walk and three RBi. So he's officially started the Astros 5-2-1-1-3 club. It was sort of like the Mets waiting for a no-hitter all those years.

As a Mets fan, it kills me that they passed on Springer for a high school player from Wyoming. This kid's HS didn't field a baseball team. He was scouted playing legion ball. Right now this kid is doing well at the A level. But, look at what Springer is doing.
Being a Mets fan is very frustrating.

George Springer's home run generated $287M in mythical revenue for UConn.

Sounds a bit low. Maybe want to use better metrics?

The Mets desperately need new owners.

Springer went before the Mets had a chance to draft him. The guy that went right after Nimmo was Jose Fernandez. Also, I think Nimmo is leading everyone in OBP right now and he should be going to AA in a few weeks, so hopefully he turns into something useful.

Springer went before the Mets, and I am about 99% sure that the Mets would have taken him (Billy Beane was infatuated with him and Alderson comes from the same school of thought) had he been on the board. Where the Mets really struck out in hindsight was taking the Lottery ticket in Nimmo has opposed to Jose Fernandez or Sonny Gray (Gray was more of a sure thing coming from college). If you paired one of those two with Harvey Wheeler and Syndergaard (After they all got their inevitable Tommy John Surgery) with Mejia as the closer you are looking at a early 2000's A's/late 2000's Giants type of dominate starting pitching staff that can carry you to the playoffs with minial offense.

I will say Nimmo is proving a lot of scouts wrong as he matures, and he might end up profiling as a Shin Soo-Choo light who can hit at the top of the line-up with high OBP.

The Astros were filmed during the draft and the GM in Houston was absolutely giddy when George was there.

George's spring has sprung.

This morning on ESPN Sportscenter (about 7:25) after showing his highlights in that game the sportscaster says, "And what school did he go to? UConn. Just figured I'd mention that."

He's hitting quite a lot of HRs lately, but I think drafting him "early" was a mistake... He didn't start playing for a while, I took him with my last draft pick which seems to have been a good move as of now. Hoping it makes sense to keep him since it won't really hurt my next years draft

Astros should only draft players from Connecticut. Worked out well with Jeff Bagwell too.
