Saw Chappelle last summer in Chicago, doors didn't open until almost 1 in the morning and we didn't leave until 4 in the morning. Dude performed for 3 hours, easily the funniest show I've ever been to.

Right now it's Louis CK and everybody else.

I loved Mitch Hedberg and George Carlin and I really like Jim Jeffries. And Dave Chapelle before he got huge, his stand-up was great.

But right now? Louis CK is on another level. No offense to everybody else, but just... no.

I dunno about you guys but Ralphe May routinely has me close to urinating in my pants. Seen him at "the mall" a few years back.

Bill Burr by far is the funniest guy out there

Every time I see a muffin I crack up. Especially when sold at a table by an old lady.

Both Burr and Louis CK crack me up, but Burr had the definite advantage of not having kids who are going to see YT clips of his routine. Because that's gonna be really awkward for Louis CK in a year or two!

I enjoy comedy that doesn't talk down to me or rely on catch phrases or gimmicks. Used to like the pre-9/11 Dennis Miller. Loved Eddie Izzard back in the "Dressed to Kill" days. Surprised Kathleen Madigan never made it bigger than she did.

The late Mitch Hedberg. Wasn't famous - just a Comedy Central routine or two. He was like watching Kurt Cobain making random observations while stoned.

The first Chris Rock HBO special was classic - one of the funniest hours of television I've ever seen.

I did the Google on Hedberg...I am cracking up here. Can't believe I missed out on this guy.

For me it's tough to pick an all time favorite because they're all so different but Top 6 in no particular order:

Pryor
Chapelle
Patrice O'Neal (RIP)
Cosby
Mitch (RIP)
Carlin (RIP)

*1st comedian I remember listening to is Flip Wilson on my parent's old records. Spent 100's of hours listening to that over and over.

This isn't even close to being safe for work but take the 27 minutes to watch this Patrice O'neal HBO Special. Trust me:

#!

I must be old-school.
Definitely Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, & George Carlin.

On my personal stand-up Mt. Rushmore I'd also add Sam Kinison.

(48"X48" acrylic painting I did of Sam in 2008)

Rock
Louis CK
Eddie Murphy - Delirious
Pryor
George Denis Patrick Carlin

Was also pleasantly surprised by the guy who opened for him at the Bushnell last year, Gary Gulman. He did a great bit about the Karate Kid.

Gary Gulman is great. He makes a lot of references to the 80's which I easily identify with. I've found Patton Oswalt and Jon Mulaney to be pretty entertaining. Anthony Jeselnik's standup is way funnier than his show.

Robin Williams, Carlin & Chris Rock. In that order.
I put Carlin in front of Robin Williams, but those two are just freaking genius minds at work. It's simply amazing not just how smart they are but how fast their brains work(ed). I could listen to Carlin forever and Williams improv stuff where he asks the audience for pieces that he puts together is beyond ridiculous for brain power. Chris Rock not so much.

On Dangerfield, he had a one liner I always remembered. He says, 'My wife gives me no respect. Last week, she cut me down to once a month. But that's okay, I know a guy she cut our altogether."

I'm old enough to remember when hardly any comedians used profanity and they could be pretty funny. Pre-Lenny Bruce, nobody used profanity unless in relatively obscure ways. Belle Barth was as profane as they got and very funny. A Redd Foxx type. Seinfeld is the only modern comedian I know of who won't use profanity.

Greg Giraldo, how the duck is there a 3 page thread and nobody mentions Greg Giraldo, makes me sad. RIP to a genius.

Surprised he hasn't been mentioned, but Bill Hicks was hysterical. CK and Gaffigan are my favorite current ones.
