Jon Ronson wrote a book about that. Yeah, the viral outrage is usually too much, but it's hard to find a happy medium.

Deserve has little to do with the reality of the situation. Most kids have had the talk about reality media and understand that privacy doesn't exist anymore.

I should add though that this kid was arrested before and he yelled at a cop and there were news reports about it. The fear of that previous incident being highlighted in the future should have been enough to prevent him forever from ever again getting into trouble.

It wasn't enough apparently.

So, we're either talking drinking problem or intelligence problem. One or the other.

I think the bigger issue for this kid is that if he doesn't get his ___ together he's going to eventually pop off to the wrong person. Which probably wouldn't be the worst thing for him.
 
Meh, in today's world, with the right agent, this kid could quickly parlay this into a nice paycheck by becoming a pitchman for some place like S'MAC.

"I know a thing or two about killer mac and cheese. Hell, I was willing to make an ass of myself and get arrested for it. And I'm telling you that S'MAC is so good, it's criminal. Take it from me--I know."

The outrage can be a little much but this guy deserves everything that's coming to him. He is going to be publicly shamed and deal with embarassment for a while but his life will be far from ruined. His life would maybe be ruined if he actually got sent to jail like many young people who act out like he has would have to face. This kid has now assaulted a police officer, called another officer the N word, said all sorts of horrible things to this manager before assaulting and spitting on him. Public shaming and embarrassment seems like a fairly light punishment.

I agree... to me, he will face reasonable backlash for his actions. His actions were accurately recorded and not edited in any way, so really he opened himself up to ridicule and hopefully that intense ridicule will teach him that the way he acts isn't tolerable. At least that it's only tolerable if you have millions and can pay people enough to let you treat them that way.

The internet backlash can be bad, but at least its a little more concrete evidence of the fact that he's a scumbag than say 1 tweet out of context getting him fired from a career type position.

This is a crossroads moment for this kid. If this was his first problem, I'd feel a bit worse, but he clearly has problems and not just alcohol abuse. If he's a , then he'll keep being one and I have no issue with him getting publicly ridiculed. If, however, he's a good kid that has alcohol and emotional issues he'll get help (which I'm sure he has the means for), he'll make very public apologies and all of this goes away. If his parents have the money that I assume they do (they sent him to ski boarding school), they'll get some PR consulting (scooping mac and cheese at homeless shelters and scrubbing dishes at the Union) and this kid will become a hero for turning his life around. The social media cross hairs go both ways.

kid is a pos that deserves to be expelled and forced to work at a McDonalds. I dont care wtf his problem is, he was drunk but not falling over. Clearly its more that he is an entitled piece of shit. The University should expel him, especially after spitting in the managers face. I dont want this kid to be a representation of the type of kids that go to Uconn.
 
If that is how he reacts to not getting served Union Mac n Cheese, imagine what would have happened if he was at The Dairy Bar and they wouldn't serve him his ice cream!:eek:

At least then his actions would have been understandable! ;)

I am on a message board right now that has the fathers phone number, his place of business phone number,his work address, his mothers phone number and pictures and contact information of a friend of his (who is female) who looks pretty damn good in a bra. All these people are now getting harassed (including the father at his place of work) in the name of internet justice. It is a lot more than a public shaming. Others are being brutalized now.

And I just saw on the Twitter that in Mac Boy's hometown someone who stole his identity back in March just turned themselves in for their own protection.

Long story short, that kid should have been knocked out the second he touched the manager and started demeaning his job. I'm sure by the way this kid talks, he would try and sue the first person that hits him anyways.

Yeah everything is on film nowadays. Can't kick someone's arse, and just walk away. We had no such evidence and if a person got what's coming to them no one snitched.

iPhone's are the new snitch and even police can't dismiss such evidence. They have to act even if they don't want to.

In this case any Samaritan would have become well known (and liked) but subject to litigation and suspension/expulsion.

Sans Gawker..All of the websites I've seen (Courant, Stool, Deadspin, Buzzfeed) have correctly used UConn and not Uconn or U-Conn or Connecticut. I mean this is a huge day for the University. Bravo everyone.....Bravo.
