My first call would be to Frank Martin but doubt he comes here. I also like Keatts at UNCW.
 
Can't imagine your coach leaving to make a backwards move is exactly good publicity when you're knocking on the door of the Big 12.

1960s? They perenially underachieved in the tournament, but Huggins had Cincy relevant for a long time and sent a lot of guys to the NBA. Kenyon Martin, Nick Van Exel, etc.

True, but one final four and seven sweet 16s in the last 53 years is hardly being on the "mountaintop."

I know what you're saying, but I don't really think of what Huggy Bear did as any kind of mountaintop. It was a decent program under him, but no mountaintop type of deal.
 
He's not worth 3mm. Cincy better to get another coach. UNLV will overpay, and not like what they get as usual. Some folks never learn.

Fine - Cronin's not going to get them back to that particular mountaintop. It may not have been Everest or K2, but it's at least Denali or something. Cincy was a top 15 program for about a decade under Huggins, and I don't think Cronin's going to approach that level.

They were the favorites to win a title in 2000, and then Kenyon Martin got hurt. They were also the only other team in 1999 to defeat the invincible Duke Blue Devils.

They hit some lows in the 2000s, but I think Cincy has the potential to be in that second tier of schools, potentially where Pitt was under Howland/Dixon (with, hopefully, some more postseason success) or what Gonzaga has been for the last 15 years or so.

Again, they're not going to be Kansas/Kentucky/Duke/UNC, but they don't have to be a team that scrounges for S16s either.

Exactly. This is a program that should be threatening an Elite 8 run every 2 or 3 years, and making at least one Final Four per decade.

Def better than Dave Rice though. UNLV isn't exactly a destination job at this stage of the game. If you want anyone half decent, you've probably got to pay.

End of the day, they probably should gamble on a young up and comer.
