OT: Best bacon egg and cheese in CT

I am a sausage egg and cheese guy. But this is a great thread to change it up this morning. I live in Palm Beach, FL and we have a few places down here that make decent bagels because there are so many New Yorkers in my area. But the bagels just like the pizza crust just are not what they are in CT where I grew up.

Must be what’s in the water. Now they are taking fluoride out of the water down here, maybe that will make a difference. But I think there is fluoride in the drinking water in CT.

I only say that as there must have been because my tooth brushing consistency was not so great as a teenager and I had very few cavities.

Did not step up my dental hygiene until girls and kissing entered the equation, for some things you have to put in the effort

The best bacon, egg, and cheese has no egg. Substitute sausage, and it'll pass as edible.

Looking specifically for a bagel, Goldberg's in West Hartford. I prefer a hard roll and Circle Pizza in Madison was always my go to. I would stop every day on my way to school and now if I pass through the area will still stop in.

TJ's Burritos in Bloomfield is phenomenal. I have not had a bagel there but their burritos and everything else I have had are great, not to mention all the coffee and boozy coffee options.

That thread is 3-5 years old though and half the places probably closed during COVID.

That thread made quite an impression. A place that opened up since is the Ranch House in East Hartford behing Ct Boulevard. Easy on/off at the Governor St. exit. Five bucks, perfectly grilled roll, and generous amount of bacon for the price. Still, if the egg has any yolk at all, yolk and egg squirt out when you bite into a bagel. Unless the bagel is very soft. And if it is very soft, is it still a bagel?

I think you said that in the first go-round. So I don't think things have changed all that much. But what about Chinese food ?

Way more interest in breakfast sandwiches in CT than Chinese food.

Tasty Yolk (bunch of locations) makes some great ones. A little stepped up from your basic bodega-style but well worth it.

But agreed with Fishy, really hard to separate yourself otherwise. People wax poetic about Country Cow deli in Fairfield, and it’s…. Good. Tastes the same as 75% of NYC bodegas and tons of other delis in CT.

It’s a few thousand people arguing in favor of the last pizza they had.

Maybe I'm crazy but I swear Chinese food in Connecticut was way better 10-15 years ago. I've always had my go-to spot but would try others and they weren't too bad. Now a lot of places are absolutely horrible.

Have to agree with you on that. I love cooking so I'm a decent cook but I could make a killer bacon, egg, and cheese when I was a little kid because it's the most basic level of cooking and 1 step up from being able to pour a bowl of cereal. Anyone can lay strips of bacon in a cold pan, cook eggs in the bacon fat, lay cheese on the eggs and put bread in a toaster.

There is a food truck at Southport Beach year round that is awesome, but the guy doesn’t always seem to show up. Worth getting off the highway for a bacon egg and cheese, with the risk that he might not be there.

No it doesn't, you actually have to have the proper oven for great pizza which people don't have at home and there's a skill to making the proper dough.

In the Hudson Valley in NY…it’s awful.

Country Cow is the GOAT. I dig Tasty Yolk and frequent for basically everything other than the BEC - they even do good tacos when I'm too lazy for Don Rene. But those rolls are far too rich and dense. Not trying for a pre-noon food coma.

Literally taking this all the way across the country, I am forever ruined trying to find a better breakfast sandwich after St. Patrick's Day 2021 in Fairbanks, Alaska. They have these free standing drive thru coffee and sandwich shops which are about 80-100 sq ft. One of them specializes in how the staff dresses. On this particular morning with the temps about -30 degrees, the employee handed me my coffee and sandwich wearing a see through green thong and two well-placed clovers. A $20 tip for an $8 meal seemed justified.
