Oskar Giltay Stanford Center possible transfer?

I guess the value of a Stanford diploma isn't the same among Belgians as it is here.

Anyway, in thinking of past backup centers who played key roles on NC teams, I'm thinking Josh Boone. So the main question for me is: how big is Giltay's ass?

Worked out pretty well actually. According to Dan he saved our season. Is a shame Eric didn’t see the value in staying but I think overall UConn got value from him coming in.
Well that's my point, the suggestion was it's cheaper to keep the bigs you recruited in HS which was not the case with Reibe, even when the minutes were available

.-.
I am good with this guy and assume he comes cheaper than Chol. Don't see any way we can get both of them.

I think we'd still need a bench 4 and a bench CG. I like David Fuchs from San Francisco as a bench 4.

Reibe filled in admirably when Reed missed some big OOC games.

Just not sure why he didn't incrementally improve as the season went on. Can't blame the staff or a lack of PT. He really struggle to defend without fouling at an alarming rate. Players earn minutes as they produce and improve. Not sure what happened there.

How did that work out with Eric Reibe?
Obviously not as good as Clingan.

I think this kid is willing to put on the defensive effort that Reibe didn’t want. Gladly take him. Either the perimeter artillery we’ll have next year, a defensive minded center will fit in perfectly.

Would be happy with him as our backup PF and Marchot as our backup C. Still need a backup G. County is our only G off the bench right now so that’s the biggest missing piece IMO.
Stay tuned

He moves well, playing against good competition here. Young player, plays well, seems underused based on the minutes he was getting. Going to be a sophomore right, we got him right where we want him.

Longer film. BOUNCY and aggressive shot blocker. I’m sold on Giltay as the backup 5. Would still love to bring in a 3rd playable big man like Machot. Let’s get greedy in the front court.

I'm sold too. He looks good, all we can want in a backup 5!

I think the video on Machot is certainly a lot flashier but I'm supposing here that Giltay's defensive metrics are in line with what the staff wants to do defensively, having that rim/lane protector. Giltay really saw his playing time diminish as the year went on but I haven't watched enough Stanford to know why.
He struggled some in ACC play

He fouls at a high rate. Someone here called him an elite rim protector and he is not. He's a good shot blocker but not elite. Its not like teams will have a hard time scoring in the paint with him in there.

If he is a third center he is a major upgrade from Koroma if he is our center to split minutes with Hines then major downgrade from Reibe.
I think Hines plays 25-28 minutes a game, maybe a little more in big games. Backup plays 12-15 at most. Not saying Giltey is the answer at backup but whoever we get as the backup will not be a major downgrade of the Reibe who played the last 10 games. Reibe gave us virtually nothing down the stretch and we made it to the national championship game. Whoever we get I trust Dan Hurley will make it work.

I'm not wild about this guy but I guess the NIL money sucks. Feels like are already scraping the bottom of the barrel at Center with this one. Hopefully we can bring in another big with more promise and my tune will change.

Michigan & Florida ripped off UConn’s 23’ & 24’ strategy to have size & length at each position- reason why Purdue’s guards had no shot against us in the title game- our guards were almost twice the size. This is not just a Michigan one year this is where college basketball is going- this has now been going on for about 5 years in where the best teams know they need size & length at each position to cut down nets.
Don’t see a comparison of UConn 23 and 24 with Florida and Michigan big lineups. Outside of Clingan in 24 we had Karaban and 3 good sized guards. In 23 we had Sanogo (who was 5-6 inches shorter than Mara and Condon), Karaban, and 3 good sized guards.

I wouldn’t mind double bigs in the second unit with how big the good teams are now. Could be fun. I’ll happily step off this corner once I see us getting involved with more traditional PFs.
A couple of teams win with big front courts and all of a sudden you have to have a big front court to win.
Florida had a big front court but without their 3 guards (especially Clutch Clayton) they don’t sniff the championship. And we came within 2 points with a point guard playing on one leg and our worst team of the past 4 years.

A fairer whistle and we probably beat Michigan and their behemoth front court.

I like our chances against anyone with Dan Hurley and our style.
