Opening Weekend vs. UMass Lowell in Port St. Lucie

Defensive moves for the top of the 9th. Krueger goes to left field, Winkel to 1B, Gnesda out. Dandeneau stays in to pitch.

Dandeneau could be one of the most important players on this team if he keeps pitching like this. I never understood his 4.5 ERA last year considering his stuff and 4:1 strikeout to walk ratio.

7-3 win! We were not at our best but baserunning turned out to be a major positive today and the freshman continue to step up.

Two excellent innings for CJ Dandeneau. UConn wins first game 7-3. Looking forward to Mason Feole starting the second game.

Game 2 of the doubleheader is about to begin! Tune in on 91.7 FM or online at fm.whus.org

2nd inning, Gnesda gets hit by a pitch, comes around to score on a Moriarty single. 1-0 UConn going into top of the 3rd. By the way, UConn batters have been taking a lot of hit by pitches.

Bottom 3rd, Prato got on, steals 2nd, and comes home on a two run homer by Feldstein. 3-0 UConn after 3 innings. By the way, Prato has 6 stolen bases so far in this series.

Feole gets into some trouble in the 6th, gets out of it after allowing one run. 4-1 UConn going into the bottom of the 6th. I'm thinking we may see the bullpen in the 7th. Still, a very nice debut for the freshman pitcher. 3 hits, 3 walks, 7 strikeouts so far.

Freshman Jacob Wallace in to pitch the top of the 7th for UConn. Throws an easy 1-2-3 inning.

Feldstein makes a nice running catch for an out, then doubles up a runner to end the top of the 8th inning. Feldstein is rapidly becoming my wife's favorite player.

8th inning, Winkel triples, then Moriarty hits a two run homer. Freshmen are having a smashing debut weekend, literally. 7-1 Huskies.

Rossomando pitches the 9th. And it is a very quick inning for him throwing smoke.

Moriarty goes yard. Willy who?;)
Obviously, this is said partially tongue in cheek, as UM-L is basically in transition to Div 1 and Yahn is a CCBL vet and 1st team AAC. OTOH, Moriarty should get more than a utility look when Yahn is healthy.

It was entirely tongue in cheek :) It's just nice to know we have freshman that can serve as the next man up.

Trap game tomorrow with Texas looking kinda beatable next week. Our players cannot get too amped about that game.
