He’s an average putter. That doesn’t work on the Tour.Rory definitely lacks the killer instinct and it has hurt him. He wasn't playing like a guy who needed to shoot 65 yesterday in order to win. Almost looked like he tried the equivalency of playing prevent defense in football.
He's a good dude and hasn't ever backed down from an interview or tough question.
A player his caliber in his prime not winning a championship for over 8 years does raise legit questions about his finishing skills.
He didn’t on Sunday.Rory hit driver everywhere. What do you mean by conservative?
This is one heck of a hawt take. Rory is currently #3 in the world, was top ten in strokes gained putting average this season on the PGA tour, and finished 2, 3 (would have been T-2 if he didn't try to hole out yesterday on 18), T5, and 8 in the majors this year. He’s an average putter. That’s pretty amazing![]()
British Open 2022: Rory McIlroy just pulled off something that no one has ever done in golf history (And no, it's not good)
Golf fans witnessed something on Sunday that might never happen again.www.golfdigest.com
Now paying for announcers too, that’s hilarious. Still not gonna get people to watch.Bummer that it looks like Feherty is goin' LIV
Kid is an absolute stud. Been watching him since he was 15 and was winning everything in sight in Westchester and Met Section. Very impressive player. No love for Cam Young on the Yard but he showed up on Sunday.. Strong tournament for a PGA rookie
He definitely didn’t sink putts but the suggestion that his putting doesn’t work on the tour is just bonkers.![]()

Gets more birdie chances than most, makes a few and you think he’s good. Average on the tour is still pretty good. The fact that he had no 3-putts Sunday was remarkable. That he had no 1-putts was equally remarkable. I like the guy, and was rooting for him. Nothing personal. He definitely didn’t sink putts but the suggestion that his putting doesn’t work on the tour is just bonkers.
He was top ten on the entire PGA tour in strokes gained putting average this season. He clearly lost the Open on Sunday because of his putter (and Cam's), but your suggestion that he's "average" is not borne out by the stats. There's also a very solid argument that he was the best overall player on tour this season, so beyond that, any suggestion that his putting "doesn't work" on the tour feels like a pretty significantly reactionary and unsupportable hot take.Gets more birdie chances than most, makes a few and you think he’s good. He had birdie chances but most were much longer than Cam’s. Having a birdie op from 12 ft is very diff than from 30. His putter wasn’t hot and his irons left him with too many long birdie puts IMO.Gets more birdie chances than most, makes a few and you think he’s good. Average on the tour is still pretty good. Chill. My opinion isn’t worth your reactionary and unsupportable hot take.He was top ten on the entire PGA tour in strokes gained putting average this season. Don't be that guy... I'm quite chill, I'm just having a discussion on a message board and providing the stats to show why your point was incorrect. Don't try to flip this around as me needing to "chill" instead of addressing the points.Chill. My opinion isn’t worth your reactionary and unsupportable hot take.
36 putts Sunday. I rest my case.Don't be that guy... I'm quite chill, I'm just having a discussion on a message board and providing the stats to show why your point was incorrect. Don't try to flip this around as me needing to "chill" instead of addressing the points.
If you’re changing your point to Rory being an average putter on this specific Sunday, you’re not going to draw any disagreement from me. I was referring to original point that he’s an average PGA putter overall.36 putts Sunday. I rest my case.
