Kotor, Montenegro

My youngest son graduated from college in May (yay!) so the family took a celebratory Mediterranean cruise, beginning in Athens, Greece and ending in Barcelona. One of the ports was Kotor, a truly beautiful place.

My files are too big to upload, most of them anyway.

We started in Athens and visited the Acropolis before boarding the cruise. The first stop was Santorini, one of the Greek islands, then Kotor, Messina Sicily, Naples, where we took a trip to Pompeii, then Barcelona, a fabulous city. It was a great trip.

Good to hear you had such a wonderful trip. The pics are great. Congratulations on your son's accomplishment. We all know the parents expended more energy than the student. :)
One of my golf buddies here in Maine, took the same cruise you describe. Small world we live in!
Thanks for sharing with us.

Sounds totally Homeric! Happy for you and your family.

We did stop in Kotor. The town is very pretty with an ancient fort in the center. The people are lovely, very gracious and welcoming. While the official language is called Montenegrin, it’s actually a form of Bosnian but not to worry, everyone speaks fluent English

I’m on my phone and can’t upload too many photos. I’ll try on my laptop tomorrow

Coins were created on the other side of the ancient Greek empire. ;)

Did u climb to the chapel on the side of the mountain?
No. It cost €30 to climb a long, narrow stone staircase. Just the day before, we descended a long, wide, donkey-poop filled staircase in Santorini and weren’t in the mood for another stair adventure.

We went kayaking in Kotor Bay instead

We have friends in Albania that we will visit next year. They are always telling us how beautiful their country is. After seeing your photos I think we'll add Montenegro as a side trip.

At JFK, waiting for our flight to Athens, we spotted the very large Mr. David Robinson. He was very gracious, signing autographs and posing for selfies with fans. He was, of course, a First Class passenger on our flight.

A view of the Ionian Sea from the side of Mount Etna, the volcano south of Messina, Sicily. My oldest son and I took an excursion to a wine tasting and it was terrific. I didn't have a bad glass of wine anywhere in Europe but the wine was fantastic in Italy.

A street in the ancient city of Pompeii. It's remarkably well preserved. The day was disgustingly hot, though, and we were guzzling water as fast as we could and were still awfully dehydrated.

The inside of a Pompeiian home, obviously owned by wealthy residents. There's a beautiful garden and the home has several good sized rooms. The opening in the roof was to let in the rain water, which was collected in a basin below.

The overly ornate, rather garish Sagrada Familia cathedral in Barcelona. It was begun a hundred years ago and architects and builders that came after the man who began the project have added a rather touristy spin on the original design.
