I just read an article where Napier said he had a terrible sophomore year and he turned out OK. So there is hope.

Not to open up a can of worms, but the fact that Ollie didn't give up and bench him in early February like many here wanted him to is the biggest reason he's not going anywhere. Now, once we made the tournament and Calhoun hadn't shown any improvement, it was clear he wasn't going to see much court time. But Ollie didn't give up on him as a player, and as a result, I know Omar's gonna be a big piece here the next two years.
You nailed it. KO kept on putting him out there hoping he'd figure it out because he believed Omar in the rotation come tourney time would give them their best chances of winning. It just simple hit the critical mass as far as the calendar was concerned and TSam was getting it done plus giving the team something that they needed more, another ball handler and an instant energy spark.

I imagine that KO explain the situation to Omar, telling him where things stood, but how he could play a prominent roll next season if he can get back on track, which he'll do all he can to help him. Hopefully Omar will start out strong next fall because the PT competition at the guard and wing is going to be fierce, especially if RB and DD return.

People on this board could not understand why KO kept playing Omar late in the season. Well, according to Bazz, Omar was hitting shots in practice and playing great at the end of the year. And if KO kept playing him in games, I assume that also means KO thought he was playing well enough in practice to EARN those minutes.

My guess is Omar got healthy towards the end of the year but was just in a funk mentally and his play wasn't translating on the court in-game. I think he had about 10 of his shots from 3 go half-way down and out in games at the end of this year. We simply had better, more experienced options in Kromah/Niels.

Omar is a tough kid and he bleeds blue to stick it out and stay with this team through the ban. He'll be a huge contributor next year. I know he'll work hard with a chip on his shoulder. He kept a great attitude about this year, got to credit him for that.

I think that this off-season Omar should work on his 3 pointer a ton. Losing Giffey, Napier and maybe Daniels leaves s huge void there.

I think Omar can possibly be the next Rashad Anderson given their games and the limitations of what they can and can't do.

He gives Palatine someone to bring up next year now that TO is gone. So there is some value there.

Yeah Rashad was an assassin, he came to mind just because him and Omar both couldn't dribble, pass, rebound or play D exceptionally well....but damn when Anderson got hot it was something else.

Well if we can just wishcast him into someone else why not just go all in and get another Ben Gordon.

Hahaha. Hey, it wouldn't be the off-season without baseless predictions ( then again how's that different than the regular season on here haha).

It will be an interesting competition in October practice between Omar and Hamilton for the starting spot at the 3.

If Omar has returned to form, he should get he nod, at last at the beginning of the year.

If not, does Ollie have the heart to banish Omar to the bench again and give it to the freshman right off the bat?

Kevin Ollie should play the best players at all times. When Omar was playing just about as bad as any UConn player we've seen in years, he didn't deserve to play - simple as that.

I'm in Omar's camp and hope he gets better but if other guys beat him for minutes then he shouldn't play.

LOVE his committment to UCONN before and now.

I believe he will work super hard this summer to come back strong next year.

I think he needs to really improve his outside shot significantly and also improive his handle so he can drive more and not be a standstill shooter. He has to be abel to create his own shot.

His BBALL future is as a 2G and he must be abel to create off the bounce and not be a one-dimensional player.

The talent is there he just needs to be healthy and work like a Monster in off season.

I think he just needs to keep working to get some explosiveness back. Seemed like he couldn't jump at all this year. That will come in time, and I think will allow him to have better rhythm on jumpshots. That's my theory anyway.

Here's a mistake I make almost every year: Assuming that a talented freshman will take minutes away from a kid who's been in the program for a year or two and understands the system. Omar's experience will give him a chance to re-establish himself. I hope he does and once again becomes the player we saw catch fire last year. Definitely pulling for him.
