There are some strange reactions in this thread. The Wolf thing is far more embarrassing. Getting arrested for trespassing on spring break in Panama City is like something out of Leave It To Beaver. I'm sure Skip will give him a stern talking to and cut his allowance for a month.

I'm more disappointed that he just had a ****** season and surgery on his foot and he's down in Florida.

That's my hunch - he was sleeping under a catamaran and his feet stuck way, way out from under it.

Until I hear that he was hiding in someone's closet at at 2 am, I'm viewing this with a "Rashad in a Halloween mask"-level of concern.

I blame Mark Emmert!

Olander would be getting ready for the next game, right now, instead of getting his size 16 dogs rapped by a maglight, under some catamaran on Panama Beach....

Like IMind said....this is all about the children!

You just don't get it Fishy... they're all horrible up there in Storrs and we're a hundred million times worse than any other division I basketball program in the history of the world... and I heard that Rashad was the reason we didn't get into the ACC along with Boston College. The timelines match up!

Look this was on Spring Break and i'm sure there was booze involved. Many of the Spring Break arrests are borederline bogus. These Spring Break towns bring in rent a cops and they arrest the kids for looking the wrong way. They arrest them, require bail and a court appearance usually the next day and the judge will fine them in an amount a little less than their bail. It is all about the town/county making money.
I was arrested in Daytona Beach during Spring Break many years ago for possession of alcohol. The only place I had alcohol was in my body. Just a BS arrest.Off to jail, post a small bond and back on the street. It was a frigginn assembly line.
I don't like the idea that Tyler was arrested (he will have no record) but this is not another lapopgate. Bad PR for sure but really nothing more than that so everybody relax.

Perfect. We need a "Program Threat Alert Level" akin to the Homeland Security advisory system:

So, "Rashad in a Halloween mask" is the equivalent of a green, or low alert.

"Khalid (and Rip) buying weed in Hartford" is somewhere in the middle, maybe a blue.

"Earl Kelly is in my dorm with a handgun" is a little higher, like a yellow.

"Marcus Williams's cousin gave me this laptop" is higher still, perhaps an orange.

And "Meeting with Josh Nochimson" is full-tilt red.

Yep. My buddies and I didn't have the money to do spring break the proper way one year, so five of us jammed into a Chevy Malibu and drove down to Ft. Lauderdale, taking turns at the wheel and driving straight through. We had no place to stay, so we were left to fend for ourselves to try to land safely somewhere every night. Most nights I slept underneath a catamaran on the beach and was awakened at sunrise by cops hitting the bottoms of my feet with their flashlights, telling me I'd be arrested for trespassing if I didn't leave immediately. Until I hear more, this sounds like it could be that type of situation. In my case, the worst thing that happened to me was getting my ear pierced one morning after an early morning happy hour at the Elbow Room.
Five of us took an eerily similar trip from Storrs to Ft. Lauderdale in a rented van. Parked & slept in random lots from 2-5AM or whenever they were done cleaning and then the one senior in our group moved the car back to the strip. Showered on the beach. Lots of time at the Elbow Room (essentially Ted's in FL, even same jukebox). My only mistep was end of week when we broke down and got a hotel for one night I 'slept' in the van anyway.

Here's the thing...this might be nothing. It might be more serious, but after what UConn has been thorough the past few years, we just don't need this. Ollie (by the way, Kevin Ollie is the coach now, not Calhoun) and Manuel need to get the message out that this kind of crap will not be tolerated. It is a new day at UConn and part of it is that we're returning to the standards of deportment that guys like Ray Allen lived up to. Best way to get that message across in my mind is to tell Wolf to find a new place to play (Hofstra?) and this knucklehead that he is welcome to walk on next fall but his days as a scholarship player are over.

Who is Skip? Beaver's father was Ward...and ace I apologize. You aren't one of the usual guys who excuse bad behavior.

I went to school in New Orleans and roamed the streets drunk and half clothed during MG and never found myself in jail. Hard to not want to take a hard line on any infraction at this point.

I bet this little tid bit makes the front page of ESPN- we are their poster child for anything negative and we seem to do a great job feeding that machine. Plain stupid.

While I definitely agree that we do not need this, you cannot throw perspective out the window.

I'm absolutely in favor of telling Wolf that he can continue his playing days at the University of Fahrvergnugen - I'd be very happy to never see him in the UConn uniform again. That's not an "Rashad in a Halloween mask" occurrence that he got himself into.

But if Olander's issue was minor, making a federal case out of it is not the right road no matter what others have done prior. If it's something more than minor, toss him and move on.

I'm wondering what rocks people are hiding under. This crud happens all the time on college campuses to all sorts of students including the academic, nerdy, scholarly kind and the jock athletic kind. My kid was an RA and the stories he had about college kids would make parents cringe. Of course people who don't go to college or graduated college are just perfect. Right.

I'm not excusing any of this behavior but people acting with disbelief really do belong down south with the holier than thou crowd. They can rant and rave all they want about misbehavior. And then they can learn about each other.:)

These experiences teach us that recruiting should not take place in the inner cities or with rural white families or foreign countries or.......

Sorry folks but happens and if you need things to be perfect I suggest you put your focus on a deity and not on humans or human institutions.

Skip is Tyler's dad ... he was actually my high school gym teacher years ago and the baseball coach. Tough man ... Tyler is certainly in for some sternness.

For example:

Panama City trespassing and Panama City resisting arrest:
These two offenses often go hand in hand and are often the result of alcohol consumption. It is a crime to be asked to leave an establishment and then to remain there. Usually, police are called and any effort to resist police orders is met with additional charges.

Since no additional charges appear to have been filed...simple trespass?

This sounds like a whole bunch of nonsense. Getting arrested for trespassing on spring break is about on par with some of those hilarious secondary NCAA violations.

And yes, Skip will probably have him run suicides for a few hours to bend him into shape.

It seems to me that we're jumping the gun a bit.

How do we know that it's our Tyler Olander? Until we get video proof, let's hold off on judgment. In particular I'll be looking for a tall white guy slapping his cell mate on his wrist as the cell mate slips by him to get to the jail house lunch first. Now, if the tall white guy falls down in the process, then we have our confirmation.

Anyone else find it ironic, from a sociological perspective, that in the recent past we have not had many white players on our teams, and then, once we get a few, two of them get arrested?

I'm going to cold call the Panama City police and ask them if the prisoner has attempted to rebound a basketball.
I heard he tried, but the homeless meth head in the holding cell boxed him out pretty well.

Earlier in the year, when I posted that I hoped UConn would recruit a power forward out of a prison to add toughness, this was not really what I had in mind.

But, if it works, great.

If they say that they have one in custody that attempted to rebound but couldn't bring the ball down, then that's all the proof I need. It's him!

Maybe Skip should of had him running suicides throughout the season, seeing as Tyler looked gassed most of the time he was on the court this year. Struggled to go end to end all season!

I know you don't agree with me on this, but this is not just some college kid. He could be one if he chose to be but he freely chose to play basketball at UConn. You do that and it comes with certain requirements. Because if fleudslipcon got arrested in Panama when you were in college, nobody but your friends and family gave a damn. Olander represents UConn. Whether he wants to or not. In return for the good things he gets, free room and board, tutition, coaching, academic advisors at his beck and call, all the stuff that goes with playing major college basketball, he has to take more responsibility than the typical college kid. and again, given what UConn has been through over the past few years, he needs to be treated harshly for failing to live up to those standards. Is it fair? Maybe not entirely. But again, he chose to play here.

Lock him up and throw away the key IMO.

He chose to be a basketball player.

Ok, what did he do? The article doesn't say. At his age, we did stuff that is considered trespassing, but was more stupid than criminal. Things like sneak into a private lake to swim late at night. Cops called in and just warned the kids who couldn't run (or swim) fast enough. Not saying he didn't do something wrong, but that article is light on details, before we sentence him to death.

I have a time share in Fort Lauderdale at a place right in the middle of prime spring break territory and was in fact there 2 weeks ago when the bulk of the immigration started. Very close to the Elbow Room. Food is damned expensive in FL (generally decent, though) . Lot of police presence and noisy along the beach front. Many sirens. mostly ambulances for kids who OD on some substance, liquid or otherwise. BTW, if the economy is so bad, and college costs so much, how do tens of thousands of kids afford traveling a few thousand miles to party? Beach sleeping and picking through trash, I guess.
