Oklahoma City and Tulsa Discussed As Potential Hosts For American Athletic Conference Tournament

Yea, KC seems to doing funny numbers with its metro area. The area the KC metro area comprises is almost two times the square miles of the state of CT.

Side point:

KC has no determination in how its metro area is defined. "Metro Areas" is a federal-government-defined concept (OMB), with strict criteria for which counties do/don't get included.

The 5 central counties of the MSA have 1.8M people. The surrounding 9 counties are fairly sparely populated.

The best option not to ever be considered is to play games at higher seed gyms until semis are over to guarantee higher turnout. Then have semis and finals at more desirable locale.

This is ridiculous. The tourney was in Hartford because UConn was supposed to win it and fill seats. The idea that people don't go because of the city is just silly. Nobody is going to any of these places to see the AAC tourney at this point. Put it at Mohegan Sun. If you have to go out of CT, put it in Cincinnati or New Orleans. It has to be somewhere the home team can fill seats or the city itself can lure drunks. There are only a few places that can work.

Also has to have an "event" feel and NO does this very well

Meanwhile....

Giving up the BE name and thus that conference tournament....I'll never understand why they did that.

SMU had a pathetic crowd showing at their NCAA tournament game in Tulsa, a mere couple hundred or so miles from Dallas.

You either didn't watch or you just have no idea what you are talking about. SMU filled that arena up. Even Reggie Miller was talking about how impressed he was with the loudness and number of SMU fans. They put every school there to shame with the exception of maybe Kansas. I am all for the AAC tourney being in Oklahoma somewhere. Placing it in Hartford was a huge mistake from the start.

We can't put all the other teams in this league down then complain that no one respects this league. I honestly think Dallas/SMU would be a great host. They have a very passionate fanbase and brought the most fans both times it was in Hartford.

Really happy with this. Memphis is great as a host both city wise and it's probably one of the closest things the conference will get to an AAC market. Hopefully the fans turn out.
