It is a much more challenging approach. When a coach offers a rising HS sophomore a scholarship, they are projecting a player’s development several years out. Geno is probably as good as anyone in evaluating young players, but the process is hardly foolproof, particularly when you attempt to project where a young player will be both physically and basketball skill wise several years out.Auriemma realized in the last couple of years that he had to modify his approach to recruiting to continue to get the best kids. He now has offers out to rising sophomores like J. Robinson, O. Vukosa, A. Bjorn, and S. Hall. Plus he offered Kaleena Smith this summer before she got to HS.
Pretty sure she did receive an offer from UConn. Somewhere in the depths of my computer there is photo of her with other UConn recruits in her class wearing a UConn sweatshirt. I’ll see if I can find it. In fact, there is a good chance that photo was posted on the boneyard. UConn was also among her list of finalists or semifinalists.I think the concern is generally valid but the downside risk on players of the ilk we are talking about here - Robinson, Vukosa, Bjorn, Hall - is pretty low. Barring injury.
It can happen though. I remember that Samantha Brunelle was everyone`s favorite and she has done ok but well below the high expectation level. Not sure if UConn offered her.
Hence the careful personal research done by our staff to ensure a good fit! Obviously, there have been a few misses but overall I would put our “fit“ success up against anyone! It is extremely rare that Geno & Co pick a recruit that does not fit in with our style/team first approach And even rarer that they sign a player who simply does not ever live up to their potential. Here’s hoping for yet another example of that with the upcoming class!I think the concern is generally valid but the downside risk on players of the ilk we are talking about here - Robinson, Vukosa, Bjorn, Hall - is pretty low. Barring injury.

Definitely. She brought her entire coaching staff.Wonder if Kim was trying to secure a commitment before she visited UConn…
From your lips to God’s ears!❤️She's is 100% UCONN, expect a commitment within the next week. Oregon actually had an impressive visit and may be pushing for top 2 potentially but Strongs relationship with Geno is too big to pass up
She did seemingly recently follow Aubrey, Aaliyah, Tonya on IG. Doesn’t necessarily mean anything but can’t be a terrible sign. She's is 100% UCONN, expect a commitment within the next week. Roberson is the only other one mentioned in the article, so I would assume Roberson is the fourth recruit they were talking about. So the article says that 4 recruits will be on campus this weekend...Cheli, Ziebell, Strong and whom? Roberson?

As good as Strong is, Roberson may have a greater upside. At 6’4”, she is athletic, defends the paint well, runs the court and has a really nice shooter’s touch.Nice touch having Cheli and Ziebel there with Strong. She’s sure to measure the two commits and say to herself, “I want to play with these girls for four years.”
I don’t know about Roberson, but Strong’s could be the next number hanging from the rafters. As good as Strong is, Roberson may have a greater upside. At 6’4”, she is athletic, defends the paint well, runs the court and has a really nice shooter’s touch.
Agreed! Strong is a gamechanger!I don’t know about Roberson, but Strong’s could be the next number hanging from the rafters.

In the YouTube video I saw, Roberson looked really smooth and the thought that came to mind was: Wow, she looks like a star in the making who could press every big on the squad for court time-- immediately. As good as Strong is, Roberson may have a greater upside. Maybe it is only me, but my initial interpretation of this article was different. Our 2 commitments are mentioned first, then four recruits that will be making their official visit. Have Allie and Morgan not made their official visit yet? If that is the case then I agree with the speculation that Roberson is the likely 4th with Strong.Roberson is the only other one mentioned in the article, so I would assume Roberson is the fourth recruit they were talking about.

What I am hoping for is that commitments and recruits in this article were meant to refer to different people, and that maybe 4 players we are recruiting in addition to Allie and Morgan will be there, maybe a couple more than Strong and Roberson, but that is probably wishfull thinking.
Sorry I should have read the first night thread before this one. I see there that Morgan's is her official visit and she Allie, Sarah and Adrianna are the 4 expected.Maybe it is only me, but my initial interpretation of this article was different.
