Hey, FNDY99 was spot on. I just meandered over here to peek in for a moment. I have no idea what's going on here. I'm just killing time until the women's game starts in 35 minutes (4:00 pm here). We have our own crosses to bear in the women's thread. Carry on.

Crosses to bear? That's funny. While you've been paddling downstream on the lazy river Auriemma we've been on the sinking ship Diaco trying to spot a life raft big enough to keep the entire AD from being rolled by a frigid P5 tidal wave!!!
But stop by again sometime for tea :)

Just my thought.. if the candidate hired seems to be of a better caliber than you'd expect a coach whose seat is glowing redder than his gameday pants, it'd be safe to assume that Benedict made the call and they are the interim HC in the event that Diaco doesn't make it through the entire 2017 season.

If Diaco truly had control of the process I'd prepare to be underwhelmed. A high caliber OC candidate isn't hitching his wagon to a head-coach under fire unless he has some assurances at the AD level (either for his job security to not be dependent on the HC or that he's next man up should circumstances dictate)

Out of al the names listed so far in this thread as possible candidates for the job:
Kirkpatrick, Quinn, Helfrich, Werner, O'Keefe, Locksley, Limeprover, Logan, Spence, Fitch, Schottenheimer, and Hamilton
Preferred Qualifications from Job Posting: Ten years of experience as an offensive coordinator at the collegiate and/or professional level; and experience as a quarterback position coach.

Only Werner, O'Keefe, Spence, Fitch and Schottenhiemer meet the criteria as required in the "Preferred Qualifications" of the job posting.

Why not? Genuinely curious, don't know much about him. He didn't screw up Matt Ryan, so he's got that going for him.

His description of his offensive system, low completion percentage, lots of bombs, is a recipe for three and out. It's stupid football.

Logan would be an unbelievable hire but I think he is pretty comfortable with his current gig. He would only take the job if he had 100% control over every aspect of the O staff and play calling. With what is on the team today, he is a minimum +4 in the win column. Everywhere he has coached has had offenses and individual game plans that were designed to exploit the other team's weaknesses. Really great at making small changes to the QB's techniques and improving their fundamentals. Try and find some of his pod casts. you get a sense of who he is and how he views the games. He would be a reason to renew season tickets.

Todd Fitch would fall in the really good hire category but when he was at BC his O stunk because the head coach has a similar overall offensive philosophy as BD. Would BD allow him to employ the same scheme he runs now?

A lot of the other names people are throwing out would also be good hires but again, BD has to let the new OC implement a game plan and philosophy that is their own. Not BD's philosophy/game plan that is 100% rigid no matter your personnel or the opponent.

Up to this point Diaco has admitted that he really wasn't involved in the offense or offensive gameplan beyond being kept in the loop. Fitch was here before with Holtz...he was OC/QB coach and during his time here Shane Stafford put up some great numbers. If you look at the "preferred qualifications" in the job posting it listed 10 years experience as a OC...that wold leave Logan on the outside looking in as I only found him being a OC for 8 seasons. If I'm wrong please let me know.

I think 10 years HC experience puts him in the qualified candidate bucket. He was essentially the OC during those 10 years. In a literal reading of the posting, you could exclude him if you want. I think he is done with coaching at the college level. But would he be a great hire. UConn would be a fun offense to watch and even more fun to listen to.

Just a sample of Logan from this year -

Some other clips on the WRAL site too.

I am now on the hire Logan as head coach train.

If Benedict doesn't let him handle the hire and couldn't find a way to fire him. God bless us - because all that means is you are looking at year 3 of PP. And it's the same price to fire him in October as it is in January.
Whaler brings up a good point here. It also can be applied to the Offensive line. Gus Malzhan could be coin there and bringing Cam Newton with him as his Qb...if Mike Cummings is back to coach the OL the offense will be pretty close to what it was last year. And it will be ironic if Diaco's downfall is directly linked to his BFF who couldn't get the OL right BUT can still go on family vacations together.

Maybe. But I am a little hopeful that Diaco is smart enough to realize that a year like that sets his career back about 5 years. It's a long wait to find out, but it's possible that HCBD will adapt, adjust and change. He's not PP because PP was in semi-retirement and was mailing it in. Bob cares and is young and ambitious. As I said in another thread, I think he knows football and I don't think he's stupid. I have big doubts that he can turn his career around at UConn. But I think he will be a good HC eventually, so it is possible.

So which would you rather see?
A. Bob is wacky Bob, making bizarre play calls, running predictable offense and passive defense and UConn wins 2-3 games.
OR
B. Bob cuts out the stupid, high risk plays. Becomes less predictable and more aggressive on offense on first down and in not punting from the 42 yard line on 4th and 1, and the defense plays a hard hitting aggressive style, forcing turnovers. UConn wins 6-7 games.

B means Bob is back in 2018. So the question is, do you guys want him to succeed, if it is possible? I do. If he's back in 2017, ideally I'd want him to change his approach and win.

Either fire him or let him pick his staff. Forcing an OC on him is a recipe for disaster since HE HAS ALL LEVERAGE because you can't afford to fire him.

I guess I'm still unsure if all the preferred qualifications need to be met. In 2013, Weist wasn't a FBS OC for 4 years as Western Kentucky was not in the FBS until 2008. In 2015, Verducci didn't meet all of them as I don't think he has a master's degree. But Erik Campbell certainly had the preferred qualifications when he was hired. Who knows at this point. I do know DB needs to be involved in this because HCBD keeps picking the wrong guy.

Mike Cummings met all the preferred qualifications when his job description was posted in 2013.

IMHO Benedict isn't going to dictate the hire...it's more that he told him what he expects for the end result (he needs to win) and what the consequences are if those results aren't met. The rest is up to him to figure out. The question now becomes what standard will he be held to going forward...especially if the buy-out drops.

Well that seems inherent...

Was that for Cummings? Diaco was hired in Dec. 2013. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a new HC just pick his first assistant coaches without job postings?

Any coaching hire at UConn is done through HR and is posted on their site. He has picked every coach he has hired..which is why the preferred qualifications are written around their resume.

Any more OC guesses out there? I'd be content with any one of the guys being speculated already in this thread not named O'Keefe
