The AP doesn't have a poll after the tournament, so what you suggest has never happened.

Let people enjoy this. Everyone agrees that the most important poll is in April, but I really liked 1995 and it was cool that they were #1 that year even though they lost in the Elite 8.
The men and women were #1 at the same time for a week or two, which was amazing and possibly unprecedented.

I think at that time it was the first time ever. It's happened since then (I think with Duke), but some people have internalized the "mediocre regular season--win the championship" rhythm of the last few UConn titles as the way it should be. I want to dominate both! And one does not mitigate the other. I want to be #1 wire-to-wire. I want to be the first undefeated team since Indiana 1976, just like I want to be the first back-to-back team since Florida 06-07.

The hilarious thing is these people all cry about how we're not treated like Duke, Kentucky, UNC, Kansas, and of course a big reason we're not is because those schools all have way more total wins, been #1 in the AP poll way more weeks, more finals appearances, more final 4s, etc.

And then when we accomplish one of those things, those same people are like "you're lame for caring about that".

Can’t lie, got some chills with this. I was a freshman for the 08-09 season, went to almost every Gampel game, almost always in the first 5 rows. What a time. What a team. Haven’t been in a sports environment like that before or since. It’s why I’m so especially happy I snagged a ticket; can’t wait to see how crazy the students are going. Happy they are able to have the experience

You are probably right, there is a poll which must be a coaches poll. I do like having a 1 next to our name however

It's 100% because these are exactly the sorts of people/fans who just constantly want to play victim constantly about everything. It's a conspiratorial mindset. Conference realignment—and other things—have caused it, but it's rampant in this particular fanbase, even though it is not unique to it.

#1 -Nice accomplishment for this team. Very pleasantly surprised by the AP vote.

In the big picture it is not all that important but some recruits will notice. And it will have an positive affect on the overall perception of the program. Savor the flavor.
First off, ranked #1 any time after having a bunch of meaningful games under one's belt is awesome!

As for this impacting recruiting, it still brings me angst that we didn't land another top recruiting class after winning the NC in dominant fashion and ranked in the upper portion of the preseason rankings. I won't mention the specific recruits we missed out on, and we did land a top 2023 class, but thought we'd repeat that success with the 24 class. Let's see if back to back elite seasons will net us a big time 2025 class and some top transfers via the Portal.

Come on, don't be overly dramatic. UConn was not a "dumpster fire of a program." The program was on a downward trajectory and changes were needed. And the AD made a quick move to stop the downward trajectory.

UConn was only 2 years removed from an NCAA Tournament appearance. Only 4 years removed from a national championship. That's so ridiculous calling them a dumpster fire. You want dumpster fire? Go look at what is going on in Louisville.
Or Syracuse :)

28th and 29th in both polls but they should be at least 5 spots higher, at least. Sadly if they go 1-1 they will fall further than they would rise by going 2-0, guaranteed. Pre season ranking is sometimes too big of a hole for some teams that end up solid to climb out of.
It’s why preseason rankings are relatively silly. Takes too long for unexpected performance for better or worse to move as fast as they should Up or down Maybe start ranking after 8-10 games. Obviously Seton Hall seems to deserve more recognition. Anyway, I don’t get overly excited over being #1 as nice as it is. As has been pointed out, UConn has been NC a few times without ever being ranked first.

All I know is after our experience surrounded by Creighton fans at MSG, I'll forever take more pleasure in beating them than any other BE team. EllEffGee on Weds!!!
