Ok Let’s go through the matchups you’re so big on:
Reed>Mara (indisputable)
AK=Morez
Stew<Yaxel (indisputable)
Ball>Burnett (assuming Ball gets his 3 back)
Silas>Cadeau (indisputable)

Smith>Cason
Mullins = McKenney
Ross<Gayle
Reibe>Tschetter

UConn +3

Dude, you left off the most important matchup

Hurley >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Underwood

C'mon man

☺️

Let’s disagree then. They have more talent. Let’s not act as though Cadeua, who was a McD AA that couldn’t develop under Hubie, isn’t a solid Pg. With the talent around him he just needs to distribute. They have another McD AA frosh coming off the bench. Kid was composite 3 spots behind Mullins.

They are more talented. Hurley may be able to do some things from a coaching perspective that could give us an edge. You must take the blinders off.
We vehemently disagree

Went toe to toe with the # 3 team down 2 starters one being our best player. I’ve seen enough. But then again I’m a homer
Ummmmm......Michigan just beat Gonzaga 40 who beat Alabama by 10 who beat Illinois by 4. That was a pretty epic beatdown. But I like the rosy glasses.

You mean Dusty May but yes coaching matchup advantage too

Kansas beating Tennessee without Tennessee tells me that what I posted earlier was accurate, the rest of the team without Peterson is better than some people think. Tiller in particular is very good.

This Michigan beat down of Gonzaga is shocking. This is really impressive. I didn’t realize that Michigan was this good. Stunning level of dominance over a ranked team that looked really good all week. Up 43!
Elmarko finally having a good game is a big sign for them.

Reed>Mara (indisputable) Is it? Mara is 7'3"!! He's different. He's a true rim protector. It's a unique matchup. Reed may be able to bully him, but he may also not. Mara will also have much more impact on the defensive side of the floor. He is long, and he is mobile. He's also averaging about 3 blocks a game in 22 minutes.

AK=Morez. I don't see AK as much of a matchup advantage against anyone personally. Morez is bigger, stronger and could bully AK all day. He's 6'9" and weighs 250 and is more athletic. The only area AK is better is 3pt shooting, so he may be able to stretch him out.

Stew<Yaxel (indisputable) The advantage here is the so big that it's a multiple over any advantages we have anywhere else.

Ball>Burnett (assuming Ball gets his 3 back) Bologna. I don't know why this place over-values Ball. Burnett is 6'5" and can shoot, 44% this year, over 40% last year. I take Burnett all day.

Silas>Cadeau (indisputable) Yes - I'd say we have an advantage here, but Michigan is so big it would neutralize a lot of penetration.

Look at the matchups as a whole, man. The type of team that could give them fits is a fast, heavy speed guard roster that pushes them in transition, spreads them out and pulls their bigs away. Turns the ball over. We are not that.

Smith>Cason
Mullins = McKenney
Ross<Gayle
Reibe>Tschetter

Michigan would easily be favored right now on a neutral floor. This is NOT an objective take, at all.

You're a self proclaimed homer, and it shows here. I'm also a rabid Uconn fan, but not a homer. I prefer objectivity.

Yes, Hurley has the coaching advantage and could likely spin something that could throw them off, slow it down, make them work, space it out. But it's not as if May is chopped liver.

Really hoping DP is out next week as Kansas pulling out 3 wins with not DP was impressive. We need these wins, will take them any way we can as we continue to heal/get healthy.

Once we get Mullins back that’s exactly what we’ll do. Silas, Ball, Mullins and AK all spread the floor and shoot it.

You realize this can change as teams play? What Michigan just did is the most impressive basketball of the year, and it’s not close.
Until next week. lol

I’m not being a homer here. Acting as if Michigan has a clear talent advantage is just inaccurate imo.

Just go down the roster:

Silas>Cadeau
Ball>Burnett
Mullins<Yaxel (maybe) definitely for now
Karaban>Johnson
Taris>Mara

And this is not a ridiculous take. Where is the clear talent advantage? You’re mesmerized by their size. Which is a factor. But not the end all be all.

Michigan looks bigger, faster, and stronger than everyone in ways we did in 2023 and 2024. That was a crazy game.

Having a 7’3 rim protector is such a cheat code.

Why’d you move Mullins to the bench? And what are you arguing. That they’re just so much more talented? Or that it’s a bad matchup? We’ve seen them against similar size in AZ. Without Reed and Mullins. And almost everyone here thought we were in position to pull that one out.

Add a healthy Reed and Mullins to the mix and your argument falls apart. They’re just the flavor of the week.

Sure they’d be favored RIGHT NOW.

I already went thru that entire exercise like 15 posts up... He had Mullins on the bench because I was using our lineup right now. I had the matchups as Stew/Yaxel and then the 5* frosh because he had pointed out they have one of their own

Got it. If we ever played them Mullins would not be on the bench.

1. Zona
2. Purdue
3. Michigan
4. UConn
I’d go:

Purdue
Michigan
Zona
Us
BYU
Duke
Ville

Got it, so you've been irrationally enthralled with every other team's freshmen for months but UConn's we have to wait and see. I know you like to try and maintain this sense of superiority and remain "objective" but the reality is you just really hate this entire UConn roster

As far as 7’3 Rim protectors Mara isn’t on the same planet as Clingan or thabeet and having thabeet didn’t get as a ring either

I’m enthralled because I’ve had the chance to watch them. Mullins could be Fleming, or he could be Burries. Impossible to know yet.

My enthrallment is in line with the overall expert narrative on this class. Not sure what you’re missing.

He’s 7’3”! Long and mobile. This place is hysterical.

I'm not missing anything, this freshman class is amazing. What YOU'RE missing is that Braylon Mullins is considered a top 10 prospect and lottery pick by those same experts and you continue to treat him like an afterthought for this UConn team while obsessing over these other teams' rosters

He has not played!!! What does anyone know? Burries was also a top ten prospect. It’s all prognosticating and hope until we see it.

So what! Krivas and the Ivisic twins are all 7’2 but Reed is the only all America center among them

We saw him play in the preseason, and he looked really good. And Burries has also looked pretty good for Arizona early on. Just because he's not a star like Dybantsa or Peterson doesn't mean he hasn't been good.

But now I'm confused, first I wasn't listening to the experts telling me the freshmen are good. Now I'm not supposed to listen to them when they tell me Mullins is good. Just let me know what opinions I'm supposed to have moving forward to make it easy

You’d probably take our entire starting 5 if Mullins was in there.

Let me ask you this. Do you think we would have beat Gonzaga by 40 fully healthy? They are bigger, stronger and faster all over the floor. We could win by out executing.

The experts were lauding them because of results. All they have is HS tape for Mullins. It’s TBD, with potential.

I’m not using an exhibition against BC where he played pretty good as setting expectation.

How would Mullins or Stewart defend Yaxel?

The experts have been lauding them for months, before they played. Just like they have with Mullins, yet you ignore that.

Probably not very well for Mullins on Yaxel. I also don't think he'd do a good job guarding Mullins on the perimeter. And as it was already laid out to you multiple times by other posters, our advantage is coming from the other 4 spots where we're better than Michigan
