I think that wherever this kid goes she's going to be a rock for that school. She's skilled, strong, tough, and very bright. I believe if Fudd goes to UConn as I've expected all along, that will be a key to where AJ winds up. She'll compete and if she's confident she can earn rotation PT her first two years, I think she'll go UConn. But if she wants to be a 3-4 year starter, which she'll be good enough to be, then she can do that at all of the other four. But that Stanford education would be tough to pass up.

I remember someone posted this awhile back and in the beginning it mentions UConn was her favorite school at the time. This was her freshman year. I know a lot changes during high school, but if your dream school comes knocking that could be hard to pass up. Especially if you are very competitive and dont care about who may possibly be playing in front of you.

Just like Nika and Anna didnt care when they chose Uconn. They are confident in their abilities and UConn was their dream school. Would love to have Ashlon join our special group, she seems like a great kid. Happy to see we made her top 5.

Couple of additional takes:
She is leaving Texas and determined to be great.
Duke doesn't make this list if JPM was still the coach.
Having both Stanford and Duke in your final five probably means she has stellar academics.
UCONN was her favorite and apparently remains so.
I don't think she cares who else is coming to UCONN.

If she don't care, I don't care. C'mon down!

Agree and love that Miss Jackson is not afraid of a little competition. With the exception of maybe Duke, she is going to have strong competition to get playing time. Me thinks that's exactly what she is looking for!

That's why I said that if she had the confidence in PT she'd go for it. I described her as tough because that's the read I got of her watching an interview video of her. She seems very take charge and self assured and I think the UConn staff would love her.

Before Olson got replaced as the evaluator for ESPN, he had her as the #2 combo guard in the '22 class. He had only Ruby Whitehorn out of Detroit ahead of her so I'd like to see her because Jackson can play.

Punch in the gut to Baylor that Ashlon didn't even list them in her Top 5. They have no verbal commitments from any guards in the 2021 class; and, the 2022 class of guards in the state of Texas (other than Ashlon) is not as highly ranked as the 2021 class. Baylor will have to go out of state for some guards, or continue with their focus on transfers.

While some folks are surprised that Baylor was not listed among her Top 5, that might be because a supposed Baylor "insider" had posted in the General forum some comments that now appear completely unsubstantiated:

She has made that transition from “which programs did I like growing up” to “this choice will impact the rest of my life, I have many aspects to consider”. Like most astute recruits, she is seeing education, proximity to family, fit, lifestyle, etc. in a much clearer way as she progresses in the process.

And:

Not school specific. Simply understanding that recruiting conversations have moved from “grew up liking” to a more detailed discussion of practical particulars [location, playing style, majors, family attending/seeing games, relationships with coaches/players/recruits]. Probably true of anyone who has ever picked a college.....folks fantasize about certain universities growing up but take a far more practical approach when picking which school to attend. Jackson is playing for SA Finest and Ray Caldwell & Team emphasize a very holistic [my terminology not theirs] approach to recruiting.

And on the Baylor message board:

On a positive note, Baylor's position with Ashlon Jackson has improved tremendously. Remember that she is a Louisiana native (lived there until 7th grade). Some coach at Baylor WBB seems to have the magic touch with key Louisiana recruits. Jackson is very tight with her Mom.....recruit the Mom. See "your baby" play all the time. Don't send her thousands of miles away where you never see one another. Play at home with elite talent. UConn has tons of guards in their 2020 & 2021 recruiting classes.

She has size and Geno is clearly building a team of positionless basketball so there is no reason for her not to believe she could earn playing time early in her college career at multiple positions even if Paige and Fudd along with others are in the mix when she would arrive. Come on up....

There was a video in the July Recruiting thread of Jackson playing with her back to the basket in a horns set. I remember commenting that Geno would love that kind of versatility. Playing time will not be an issue for Jackson she has the ability to play 1-3 and will be the best perimeter defender on the roster if she suits up for UCONN.

With Ducharme who is said to have new found range on her 3 point shot already headed our way, imagine adding both Fudd and Jackson, it'll be raining 3's, if Geno ever goes with those 3 on the floor along with Paige it would be fun to watch and possibly unstoppable. If Jackson can play point guard she would only get better learning from Paige for 2 years.
