The team battled and played well. They played great defense for probably 33 minutes And fought hard throughout. This loss was not one for lack of effort. Simply put their shots just wouldn't fall tonight. Still proud of the guys. Well get em next time.

Prediction: 8-8 this BE season. Let's accept the mediocrity that is the 2011-2012 UCONN Huskies. Will Syracuse lose any players after this season? I hope they do and drop off next year because if they do we're gonna be tough to beat next season. Man, I miss the days when we were a dominant regular season BE team but after winning three national championships I think JC no longer makes a regular season championship a priority.

what were we last year in the big east? If regular season mediocrity leads to postseason heroics and beauty, i'm all for it

totally agree that the regular season is just not a priority... no one remembers or cares about the regular season games we lost last year (except on this board) .... everyone remembers the BEast Tourney and NC

we win this game with boatright so I agree with the OP- not worried about this game a whole lot

I hate seeing that Lamb dunk from early this season because I thought he was going to play with that kind of passion this season with Kemba gone but it just isn't happening.

i feel like we watched two different games. we played uninspired and sloppy for large portions of this game. and we took a lot of bad shots, late in the shot clock, which is why the weren't falling. seemed like cincy made most of the hustle plays also.

unfortunately this team reminds me a lot of the 2009-2010 team rather than the 2010-2011 championship squad. however unlike the 09-10 team they still have time to turn it around.

why do people keep saying we look like 2009-10?!?! it's a completely different group of kids and freshman/sophomore mistakes are totally different than senior mistakes...

Guess what- last year we looked uninspired and sloppy for large portions of the games, took a lot of bad shots, had kemba dribble around and take a lot of shots late in the shotclock.... we also had someone different doing some good things every game last year, something I see again this year. (Giffey played 34 minutes tonight!!! is that more than he's played all year?!?!?!)

Every game it seems we have different guys step up and play well while different guys regress and seem to confuse all of the fans and coaches... the key has got to be allowing enough guys to gain some confidence and play well and hope that it comes together in the end... and given the fact we go 9 deep, we have a lot of guys who can, on any given night, have a good game...

obviously we don't have kemba this year, but the guy hitting 2/3 bombs under a minute looked a lot like #15 last year..... we would have been in OT if not for that last 3 they hit...

if it weren't for some defensive lapses guarding the 3 and missed dunks by our two power forwards, we would have won this game easily... you can't make a comparison between this team and anyone else because we really haven't had a team like this before.... the final product is how you should judge them, not the halfway point

oh no, i said they "remind me" of 09-10. god forbid. it's just something about their general mojo, or lack thereof. but i guess i'll hold back on future opinions so as to not offend you.

also, i love the "if it weren't for ... we would have won" posts. if only life worked that way.

now i'll get lumped in with babysheep and southtampabill for one innocuous comment.

No you won't, just the usual passion following a loss. You carry yourself well around here and I think most people know that.

I realize that everyone is going to bring their "A" game against us, but the three off the glass too? Seems that sometimes the writing is on the wall...unless they are going in for us like that (Texas/Kemba)...LOL.

Aslong as Boatright comes back we will be better than 8-8. If we have Boatright tonight we win plain and simple.

Even without Boatright, with the talent we have, we should be winning. Regardless, I'm not too worried. The pieces are there, just need things to click. Just have to trust JC will find a way to get it done.

Really? I'll be pissed off about this loss for a week....Although that may speak more to my general insanity than anything else.

How many 3's a team makes is still overrated in regards to how "you defended it" is still a bit overrated in my books. Guys get shots like it or not, many with hands in their face and many too long to want to defend. When they get hot - oh well congrats - it happens. You win the battle underneath nothing matters. No 2nd chances, hammer the ball inside on offense and score you win. Cincy shot lights out and our Huskies still should've won. Cincy will get WIDE open looks next game and go 7-30 and noone will say a word other than whomever they played was great on defense...............The Hall hasn't shot as well as they did against us since - you think it's because the other teams defend the 3 a lot better. No it's because they shot out of their respective a**es. It happens......next!

I will say there was one when we were up 57-55 in which Shabaaz was lazy hanging around the lane instead of getting out to his guy Wright who had a wide open look. That's not defending well but if you get a hand in their face you did your job and congrats if he makes it.

Not mad but certainly disappointed. I 'hate' losing home games against weaker or unranked teams. We let this get away.

btw: we didn't need RB to win this game.

If we're truly a top-15, or even a top-25 team, there's no excuse for losing a home game to an unranked opponent. The fact that so many posters aren't bothered by it just confirms that we truly are overrated right now.

I'm hoping we can turn it around, but whatever steps forward we thought we had taken with the comeback vs. WVU and the win @ND are clearly not there, not consistently.

You have to throw rankings out the window. Lousiville, for example, is ranked in the top 25 but Cincinnati is not. Who's the better team right now?

The bottom line is right now there are several teams - I'd include Georgetown, West Virginia, Cincinnati, and Marquette at a minimum (and likely Louisville and Pittsburgh by the time we play them) where there is not much differentiating "us" from "them" and our games against those teams can easily go either way.

Where I agree with you is that it's very important to win the matchups with these teams at home, which is what makes games like last night so frustrating. But it wasn't an "inexcusable" loss. I would consider losses in any of our next three home games - Notre Dame, a fading Seton Hall, and obviously DePaul - to be more in the "inexcusable" realm.

Everybody CHILLLLLLL...Can you say "House Money"?

young team, lot of growing to do, without a key player... I'm really enjoying just watching these games rather than having to manufacture anger after these losses.

LETS GO! BEAT TEXAS!!

I will add.. we have defined, understood weaknesses : 3 Pt defense and interior scoring. At least the problems are identified and can be fortified. That's the first step. Better than being torched in 20 different ways each game(See: BC, lol)

Had to throw that jab in there

We have lost 1 game all year with the full group of Boat and Jimmy C.

Calm down, when we lose by 33 to a team like FSU then get to the ledge.

Defending Champs have stretches where they just do not look inspired or practicality great because they know March is what counts. Florida in 2007 had a stretch where they lost 3 of 4 to unranked teams. Do I think this team will repeat? No. But I did not when the year started, I still think we can make a great run though.

We missed RB, but this game was winnable. I wasn't as upset at losing this one. The guys play hard and don't toss in the towel. We will be fine in March.

Nice analysis.

A lot of those threes were contested as well as they can be contested without getting a foul called. And Cinci made them. There was that one three in which Shabazz was playing the lane, the one DD lost his man and the final one in which Jeremy played the drive and gave up too much space for the game winner. But pretty much all the rest were contested. Give credit to the shooters for making them.

One of the problems is the height of RB and SN allowing perimeter players to shoot over them. But another is luck in that players are getting hot against UConn. Of course people start questioning luck when it appears to be a trend, but last season UConn was lucky a number of times in that run in which an opposing player had much better looks and missed the last second shot. Luck is a factor and sometimes you go to the casino and win even though most people lose. And sometimes people can be hot at betting several times before the fortune reverses itself. It's still an element of luck.

I will literally bet you 100,000 dollars against your 100 dollars that this team doesn't go 8-8 in the Big East.

Right now we are 4-3 with nine games to go. I see two losses to Syracuse which gives five losses and Georgetown is probably a loss to make it six losses. We also have Louisville which could be a loss. If not 8-8 than 9-7 but I don't see much better than that. Losing on the road to Rutgers and home to Cincinnati were killers that have to be made up with by winning road games we're not supposed to win and then protecting our home court. Have you seen Syracuse play much? Do you see us beating them?
