This has truly been the year of the knee injury. Just terrible how many players and teams have been affected.
Sometimes it starts to feel like a war of attrition, just as much as a game of X's and O's.

six in the Triangle alone (State and Duke)... not sure about Central

There is something not quite right about this young woman. I realize we have no idea what tribulations she might be going through in her personal life, but her trajectory has been an odd one, to say the least.

Also in the same article cited by Raoul re. Gondrezick is an explanation of Boykin's status, which had been presumed but AFAIK not reported until now:

Then transfer center Da’Janae Boykin, who previously spent time at both UConn and Penn State, was not granted eligibility this year. West Virginia had hoped an NCAA appeal would allow her to play at least by the second semester, but instead it was ruled she would have to sit out game action all season and thus won’t be able to participate in competition until next year.

This seems to come out of nowhere, and it doesn't sound good.

Placed on leave due to "pending personnel matter" -- is there ever a case where this doesn't lead to a firing/forced departure?

Georgia Tech is a bubble team with a couple of very good freshmen (Dixon, Balogun). It'll be very interesting to see if they can make the NCAA tournament despite the turmoil.

This season, Georgia Tech is currently 17-10 and 7-7 in the ACC. Playing Miami on the road will be tough. A lot probably depends on what happens in the ACC Tourney.
GT has a three-person class coming in Fall 2019, including a five-star Hoopgurlz point guard in Alisha Lewis. We'll see how this plays out and if she's around to mesh the newcomers with these talented freshmen. If one is placed on leave this late in the season, that's not a good sign. Stay tuned.

Wasn't the Duke coach placed on leave a couple of years ago then brought back?

I don't know that she was ever placed on leave (maybe she was and I forget). They investigated her. The investigation came back clean and she was allowed to continue with the administration's renewed backing.

I thought that Tech was poised for a possible return to the top 4 in the ACC next season... as they dont lose any player of consequence from this year's squad. Those two freshman they have are really really good..... and they have some good support pieces. Gonna be interesting to see how things turn out. Ive seen Joseph in person at ACC tourney and in various TV games. She is a bit....... intense

Let's leave Duke the heck outta this thread

Ha intense is putting it lightly. She has that look in her eyes like she wants to strangle someone.

ND plays Georgia Tech twice during the year. In the second game at Notre Dame, the score got really out of hand in Notre Dame's favor. So out of hand that for most of the fourth quarter, MM put in a team of little-used subs, which included walk-ons. Coach Joseph saw fit at that time to throw a full-court press on, at first using a combination of starters and immediate subs, then eventually second teamers. The handshake was relatively brief and perfunctory ... and I don't think it had to do with Joseph playing at Purdue.

Triadduke....you're right about next year. All but one player is back. Interesting combination of homegrown and international players. Looks like it was setting up to being one of her better teams since the pre-teen years. Stay tuned...

She was investigated in 2016 and cleared in May of that year. In 2017, Duke AD announced an extension until the end of the 2020-21 season. Here's an article on it....

Just checked their stats. GaTech's starters:
  1. Elizabeth Balogun, Fr., 14.8 ppg
  2. Francesca Pan, Jr., 12 ppg
  3. Elizabeth Dixon, Fr., 11 ppg
  4. Kierra Fletcher, So., 8.9 ppg
  5. Lorela Cubaj, So., 6.9 ppg
They also have a freshman and a junior averaging 18 minutes each off the bench.

I’m excited for some future Texas - Baylor battles. Queen Egbo and NaLyssa Smith vs. Charli Collier and Sedona Prince should be a lot of fun.

they also have '19 point guard Alisha Lewis who stared at Long Island Lutheran last year coming in and she is going to be really good

well she is right..... Baylor and Texas arent natural rivals. Texas blood rival left to join the SEC earlier in the decade. Baylor's natural rival is more along the lines of TCU or SMU.

Is it also a rivalry if Baylor has won 14 of the last 15 meetings?

I've never thought of this as a rivalry outside of maybe the last 3-4 years....Texas has never challenged Baylor at its peak, and Baylor was not relevant when Texas was strong back in the day. It is sort of like a Maryland/Ohio State relationship where both teams competed conference title contenders a few years but it was never a strong rivalry with anything significant on the line.

For the fans, it is a rivalry. Baylor fans generally do not care for Texas at all, to put it mildly. So we get up a little extra for that one. Kim's point was that the players don't really look at it that way. They get up for it because Texas is generally the biggest competition in the conference, so they need to be extra focused. The players don't share in the disdain for their opponent like the fans do. Many of the players have known each other and the opposing coaches for a long time because of recruiting, so I think they are relatively friendly. There have been a few dustups, but that is kind of expected considering we have played 13 times in the last 5 seasons. Kim and the current players are mostly outsiders to the decades of animosity between the various Texas schools, so it's really just about the basketball.
