Non-UConn transfer portal

I will be in the minority on this for sure.

but the way college football is heading, I would be ok if we just blew this whole thing up, and sent everyone home.
Everything that made college football great, is going away.
I get the kids needed to make money, but i'm starting to see that college football's beauty in ages past, came from the fact that BIG money wasn't a part of the equation. The only currency you had was school pride and the prestige of playing the next big bowl game.

Unfortunately it became a chicken/egg problem where the beautiful things DO generate fan interest & thus money. So, who gets the money? I don't thnk college coaches should make 10M/year. This isn't the NFL. it just isn't. So, the talent will go down MASSIVELY, accordingly. both coaching and on-field talent.
And I'm ok with that.

I just want to cheer for my school (go "state"!), beat our rivals, and visit campus every once in a while and buy a t-shirt. If we by some miracle could convince the nfl-caliber talent kids to stil play for a college, amazing. But if not, the whole thing becomes ivy-league-esque (competitive, tradition rich, and forever AMATEUR in nature).

The way things are currently going, with free-cash to kids and no governance, the name of the school on the jersey is literally meaningless. it's just colored laundry for a paycheck, until the paycheck runs out. Then it's NEXT.

I have many more thoughts but i'll leave it there.
That is one opinion, and a valid one at that.

Me? I tend to run in the 'To the victor go the spoils until the tar pits go we all' camp.

The guy doesn’t realize he’s part of the problem

I truly feel that the biggest loser in the new NIL/Portal age is the SEC. Before, they were the ones paying their players, just not TOO out in the open. Plus, they had such name power that they’d pull in all the top recruits year after year and develop them. Now look, this is the third year a SEC school won’t be in the CFB championship game? Only had one team in the Semis. I’m not saying they are hurting from all of this because they bath in money. However, the B1G has surpassed them and their talent is spreading thin.

Why do you think Saban retired when he did? This leveled the playing field to some extent, and if UConn can get into the Big 12 or ACC, it would be a boon for the football program.

I think ACC could be a good fit for us, especially for rivalries and travel. BUT I don't think their leadership is strong enough to stand up to the execs at ESPN and that's led to poor decisions, poor contracts, and dissention in the ranks. I'll take Big 12 leadership with a bit more travel.

This won’t help

FBS coaches voted unanimously Tuesday to adjust the redshirt rule to allow players to participate in up to nine games while preserving a full year's eligibility in the sport.
Wow, if this goes through, any player who lost a redshirt because they played more than four games will probably sue to get a year of eligibility back. Maybe we can get Donovan Williams back.

UConn really wants to swim in this pool?:
NFL Draft-bound quarterback Ty Simpson received a $6.5 million offer from the Hurricanes for next season, so imagine the six- and seven-figure payouts going toward recruiting premium players.

Since head coach Mario Cristobal took over in 2022, Miami has been at the forefront of NIL spending, including a recent reported $2 million commitment to offensive line recruit Jackson Cantwell.

Every pool has a deep end and a shallow end. We need to be in the pool. Not wanting to jump into deep end is our reality

Well, I hope we're in the pool for another QB. Osborne looked good in Toledo's bowl game but as far as I know that was his only college start. Behind him we have a QB with very little experience coming off an injury and a true frosh. Need some more experience at that position.

Our best bet is to offer the opportunity to get that 5 million offer next year by playing here. Get your playing time some money and a chance at 5 million next year. I think Joe would have had some bags of money thrown at him to be there quarterback if he had another year.

Tucker is the "QB with very little experience coming off an injury" mentioned by Glastonhusky.

NFW a FBS program enters a season with only 3 scholarship QBs. An additional scholarship QB and/or at least a PWO QB will need to be added to the roster. Before spring semester might be challenging, but QBs will become available after other schools' spring practices.

WTF!! What a crazy rule... 9 games...I think I'll start Avery Point football...Let me get a few people from NFA, East Hartford, Weaver, Ellington, RHAM...maybe in 10 years the recruits I hired will compete for a D3 championship... 😀
