Non-UConn recruiting thread - 2025

Here's my ESPN non-verballed list. LMK if mistakes.
Also if anyone has any other rankings from other ratings services ....

Amari Byles and Jenica Lewis, according to multiple posts or stories, are slated to take official visits to Notre Dame this weekend (the North Carolina State football game will possibly be a destination for both of them).

Here's a bit on both:

- Amari Byles (#37 Hoopgurlz, #16 PN, #11 ASGR). 6'2" wing from DeSoto, TX, who was given an offer by Niele Ivey. Smooth wing/tall guard who is adept at driving and has good form on her jumper. Named ND one of 15 schools she's considering, as of mid-January 2025. Announced schools she is visiting this fall, including Duke, UNC, Baylor, Stanford, USC, Iowa and ND.

Byles is a very athletic, tough forward who is comfortable banging in the paint. Given that ND is losing two of its forwards after a mere year, Byles would be a good -- even, necessary -- fit. ND coaching staff underscored their interest when all of them visited she and her family for an in-home visit. That's right, everyone. She's apparently close with Jacy Abii who just committed to ND.

After ND, Byles is visiting Stanford and Iowa (who will pop up on this post a bunch.).

- Jenica (Raine) Lewis. (#24 Hoopgurlz, #24 PN, #8 ASGR). 5'10" combo guard who plays for Johnston HS in Iowa and All-Iowa Attack. Offered by ND in mid-July 2023 and mentions Coach(es) Ivey and Mabrey. Took unofficial visit to ND during Stanford game in Oct. '24, in addition to this OV on Oct. 10. ASGR exec. summary: "Athletic, quick, with high IQ on court. Skilled fundamentals, euro step, shoot's 3 WNBA range".

Lewis, an Iowa native, is set to visit Iowa last. Chatter from numerous sources indicates Iowa and ND could be in the lead (although I never discount UNC). The fact that she's doubling down on her trips to South Bend shows strong mutual interest.

BTW, Bella Ragone, who committed to ND in May, is supposedly also coming to ND this weekend; taking advantage of an unused OV to enjoy the campus and accompany possible commits. Stay tuned.
 
These cryptic tweets are frankly annoying to me. Particularly since they take a good 10-15 seconds to load up on my screen, so I'm waiting for actual news and it's just blech.

My guesses for LSU are Jerzy Robinson or Lola Lampley…
My guess for ND are Addison Bjorn, but Lewis and Byles are visiting this weekend, and maybe 94 Feet WBB knows something we don’t about one of those two? We shall see…

As discussed on The Bench, remember that 94 Feet was the first to (correctly) hint (as these images do) about a major ND commitment, which turned out to be Jacy Abii.

Bjorn has multiple more OV's to take and she's been pretty methodical about taking them. In fact, I think her last takes her into early November (Kansas).

As such -- if any such commitment is forthcoming shortly -- I'm guessing it's coming from Amari Byles or Jenica Lewis.

Realize your thought-question was probably rhetorical, but I'll answer it anyway...

We already know what kind of coach Gottlieb is. She's well liked by players, can attract and retain big names, and is a solid Xs and Os coach. But she doesn't push players enough to really develop them to the best of their abilities, she relies too much on a few star players, she's pretty shit at in-game adjustments, and if defense wins championships, no one told Gottlieb that, because her teams always lag there relative to their offenses.

Honestly, Gottlieb is kind of the Sandy Brondello of WCBB, except even with the portal and NIL $ it's still hard to assemble super-teams, and Sandy with DT, BG, Penny Taylor, Dewanna Bonner, and Candice Dupree won all of 1 championship, the same with Stewie, JJ, Sabrina, and Sloot/Cloud. Likeable, solid, can keep stars happy, but not quite in that top echelon of coaches.

She isn’t a very good recruiter. There is a good chance they sign zero HS kids this year. Her HS recruiting at LSU has been pretty terrible minus the 2025 class
 


Intriguing pick up by Coach Washington for Rutgers. Definitely one of the better guards in Canada and will be playing for Crestwood this season after playing with a different prep program last year.

This was supposed to be her OV schedule. I know she took Bay. Rest unclear.

I know she went to Duke. She posted pics during it in her instagram story. Duke doesn’t do the photoshoot thing in the jersey…so there was nothing she officially posted.

I have stated repeatedly I would be shocked if she went anywhere other than Baylor. Having said that her other most likely landing spots are Duke and Miami. The one reason I could see her NOT going to Baylor is if the head coach leaves to take the Dallas Wings opening which has been rumored.

Whoa...for me, the Lede is the last sentence: Nicki Collen, possibly interested in the Dallas Wings job? Can't believe it's been four years since she came over from Atlanta Dream. Maybe the money in the pro's has made a return more enticing? (Plus, one doesn't have to recruit, retain and recruit (again....transfers)). Interesting.
 
ESPN #8 6’3” Brihanna Crittendon is taking official visit to Oregon this coming weekend. Oregon has room for one more 2026 signee. Would be quite a coup for Kelly Graves.

No, I have my own celebratory ritual, but thank you for your willingness to include me in yours! Don't drink it all at once because we may need to celebrate again soon.
