I guess the USF WBB coach is probably the number one importer of basketball talent these days...at least these recruits are usually adults..
Good point. At least in terms of volume. And at least these adults seem to actually be taking classes.

That's certainly the opposite of Walker...she is focused like a laser beam
Most definitely... I saw her in the Crescom Tourney in Myrtle Beach, Walker, Coombs, Nelson-Ododa, and Grissett all have very high motors but with the guidance and leadership of Geno Both Walker and Coombs could be AA as soon as their sophomore year.

I've seen them both on the Nike circuit and U18 world championships, Carter's game is much more polished then westbrooks and it's not close. I would say Westbrook has the advantage in height and court awareness but that's about it. Chennedy who was listed as a PG on most recruiting sites played guard in the U18 tourney and started over Westbrook alongside Walker and Harris.

The top 5 IMO:
Carter
Walker
Boothe
Patterson
Dana Evans
Carter is not one of the five Nasmith award finalist.

This is coming from a mutual fan of these recruits... I understand your a homer and you want that #1 class to pull tenn out the ground but I've see just about all these players in the class play in HS games and on the Nike circuit and Carter is the best, Walker and Booth are close behind and then theirs a wide gap to the next group IMHO!

Just came across this. Which Patterson are you referring to? Chasity, the PG from Texas (who is going to UT) or Patterson the forward, who is headed to ND? I'm guessing the former, but just wanted to check. Interesting that all 5 of your choices are guards who have good handles.

What did you think of Grissett when you saw her and how do you see her playing at SC? I've heard she's 6'2 and a slashing type wing...

I thought I knew pretty much all of the top 2017 recruits but I was not aware of Grissett........I see that she gets five stars and a 97 score from ESPN so she must be quite a player

One of the top players out of North Carolina this year (a state we NEED to have a recruiting presence in because they have a lot of talent bubbling up in their 2019+ classes). She committed to SC pretty early, way before the hype could even get started. Dawn has been recruiting her and her parents since she was in 8th grade.

You guys are going to have two big shoes to fill when the two bigs leave......isn't Coates a senior this year?

Chasity... I may be a bit bias towards the Forwards but Danielle is definitely top 10 and probably the best forward after Boothe and Cooks. She reminds me of Achonwa with better handles and face up game. She's going to be GOOD!

Speaking of Danielle Patterson, her team got a visit yesterday from someone who had a decent college career:

Le Le reminds me of Alana Beard from Duke. She's definitely a slasher but what stood out to me was her versatility. She's the tallest player on her team and played center as well as point guard. She can guard all positions and has the same athleticism and speed that Gabby Williams has. She's money from midrange but needs to work on her 3 point shooting. Long story short she has potential to be special!

Yes Charlie definitely some big shoes but I think Dawn is throwing the kitchen sink at some of the top 2018 recruits as we speak.
As of next year we will look like:
Wilson 6'5"
Williams 6'4"
Jennings 6'3"
Herbert Harrigan 6'3"
Davis 6'2"
Grissett 6'2"
Gray 6'0"
Cliney 6'0"
Jackson 6'0"
Harris 5'10"
Troup 5'10"
Partrick 5'8"
Cuevas-Moore 5'6"
Bradshaw 5'6"
Even though we lose our Body banging center we will still have lots of height and will be more forward based (like UCONN) and allows us to play at a much faster pace and score the ball more instead of pounding it inside 24/7.

May have been a little dramatic ... but she certainly the most athletic player coming out this class and has dunked in numerous HS games.

I'm going to need to see some track and field results to substantiate SCspur's claims.

Boo Williams Invitational-April 2016:
Ultra-athletic perimeter performer with off-the-charts potential; quick-leaper, attacks glass, scores vs. contact; drives and finishes plays in traffic;
A little description from Dan Olson

I believe you/Olson. But Gabby was one of the top 5 female high jumpers in America *at 15*. If she had stuck with jumping, she was a likely future Olympian. There's "ultra-athletic" and then there's "Olympian track athlete" athletic.

LOL I admitted to Charlie that I was being a little dramatic but Grissett is definitely in the same company as Williams in terms of Athleticism, you'll just have to wait as see.

Yes, nothing against Coates but Dawn's insistence on throwing the ball inside so much has probably stunted the growth of the other players a bit and leads to a really predictable offense that can be defensed by really well coached teams.........wouldn't be surprised if you found more success using the more fast paced attack if you have the right players to run it.............

Next year will the be the first time in over 5 years that South Carolina will not have a true center... we have Coates now and we had Elem Ibiam for a few years before that, both are low post bangers without much beyond that, in games at least. So for awhile now we've been that low post based offense.. but next year we won't have a true center. We'll have Wilson, who likes to face the basket and hit jumpers or drive... Jennings, who will likely play at the 5 but can score inside and outside and has 3-point range (especially her freshmen year at Kentucky)... Herbert-Harrigan, who likes to face the basket and has range... and Williams, who is a PF that likes to work from the elbows and drive to the basket. No true low post squatter in that group.. The good thing is that we'll have the ability to move more around the court.. and our guards will have more lanes to the basket.. the bad thing is that we lose a lot of what a low post presence like Coates can bring to a team.

The only posts/forwards that I know for sure South Carolina is recruiting for 2018 are Nelson-Ododa, Smith, and Danielle Cosgrove.... anybody else I haven't been able to confirm for sure. South Carolina needs more pure shooters.. basketball players that know how to put the ball through the hoop. UConn doesn't recruit players that can't shoot... We bring in two bonafide shooters next year in Jackson and Troup.. Jackson being the midrange specialist and Troup being the long distance sniper. We need to get better at recruiting shooters as well as athletes... being in the SEC means you need athletes to bang, but you also need shooters to compete.

The good thing about next year is we'll be SEASONED!! I can't stress enough how this years team isn't that familiar with each other but the last two games their rounding into form and really playing as a team and not individuals. Next year we'll have two veteran point guards, more depth in the post in case of foul trouble or tired legs, and also depth at the wings and guards spots. Gray and Davis with a year under their belts will be really good. Also with our 2017 class bringing in some quality roles that we need, Williams being a face up forward with range and also banging ability, Grissett with versatility and athleticism, Troup with a high IQ and unlimited range, and Jackson being a scorer from everywhere and unlimited range as well. I think the girls will finish out this strong and will likely be even better next year.

Don't forget, Jackson is the daughter of two coaches and she's been around basketball since she was an infant, her basketball IQ is high as well.. Williams is taking the summer off from AAU basketball to work on her offense, specifically her midrange and post up game. She's preparing to contribute on day one.. apparently Dawn told her to plan to play a lot next year.

How do you feel about the likelihood of Kaela Davis returning. Earlier in the season I did not feel confident at all.. but at this point I think she will. None of the draft analysis are high on her. Davis coming back is a major key for us... Davis, Wilson and Gray playing together another year is a huge plus.. add Jennings, Harris, Cuevas and that's a SOLID six with plenty of role players around them.

Yes very high she sees the court better then most players. None of our 2017 players will be playing AAU in fact after Jr year no signees play AAU because of Summer workouts/ Strength and Conditioning with their teams. I think Williams is a potential SEC POY type player, she reminds me so much of a young A'ja Wilson she just need to hit the weights and gain a little more confidence.

As to Kaela Davis returning I think it's highly likely. She seems to be enjoying her time in Cola and loves growing her teammates. She doesn't need the money and wants to compete for a Natty so I think she returns. Also her defense is getting better by the day. She played some good defense on Vivians, Epps, and KLS and that will be important in the WNBA because Defense wins championships!!
