Duke used 5 pitchers today. Santucci looked good early but didn't last.

13 Ariz goes 0-2 and is first seed eliminated
16 ECU escaped over Wake to hang around

Fifteen schools eliminated

Surprises:
Arizona – 13 ranked, subregional host
Vanderbilt, Alabama, Wake Forest – P-5 schools from warm climates

Other eliminated schools:
Army, Niagara, Bryant, LIU, UPenn – northeast schools
Grambling, So Miss, W Michigan, Oral Roberts, La Tech, Nicholls – other (mostly southern) schools from smaller conferences.

Southern Miss looked like the worst non grambling team in the field. Really awful showing by a good team.

Every pitcher I have seen Florida throw in their games vs Nebraska and Oklahoma State throws 95+. They play great defense. Yet, because they can’t actually pitch or locate, their team ERA is extremely high.

Some of these guys might want to transfer to UConn and learn under MacDonald…

3 Nich
4 WMU, Gram, LIU, Army, ORU, Bry, Niag, Penn, Fresno, NKU

We just don't get great replays like that Oregon play at the plate. Called out but a terrible tag trying to steal home.

Exactly. I’m not sure why more of these type of arms aren’t being recruited to Storrs or transferring in. Be nice to see them capitalize on this tournament’s success and add to a potentially talented and experienced nucleus of arms.

Just keeps getting better.
Also Arkansas is down 5 runs to SE-MO at home.

Two awful slides by Oklahoma. Both runners would have been safe otherwise.

Neither Duke nor Oklahoma look very good right now. Hope whoever wins plays like this next game…

The home plate ump in this game has been wildly inconsistent. I watch more college baseball than maybe anyone (including just about every UConn game this season) and this is far and away the worst I’ve seen. Even the relatively careful announcers couldn’t help saying something about it: “The floating strike zone.” Would be extremely frustrated if this was our game. Glad he’s getting his work behind the dish out of the way in this one.

Biggest goal is the game is tight right to the very end so they have to exhaust as many good pitchers as posssible
