I know the SEC and the Big XII both do not have men's soccer. PAC 12 is out too.
Kentucky, South Carolina, UCF and WVU play in the Sun Belt Conference
Oregon State and Gonzaga are in the WCC
SDSU is in the WAC

Men(Lacrosse,Soccer, Fencing, Wrestling) & Women(Lacrosse,Field Hockey, Fencing). I think the B1G would be open to affiliate type relationships especially since Lacrosse, Soccer & Field Hockey are nationally relevant. If not then the CAA, A-10, or Big East could be options

This won't be a holdup as there are many solutions.

In men's lacrosse and men's and women's fencing, the ACC has only 5 schools playing the sport. You lose UNC and Virginia and those sports are down to 3 or 4 members. So, the ACC would need/want UNC and UVA to continue playing in the conference. As for men's soccer, if UNC and UVA went to the SEC, you would have Kentucky, South Carolina, UNC, and UVA and I would think they could grab UCF and WVU to make a conference.

We might also see a more regional reorganization of Olympic sports altogether
 
I could see some non revenue sports going the way of men's soccer at Bama, Arkansas, Auburn, A&M, Georgia, Fla...and UConn and FSU...if TRitle IX allows.

Club sports are playing for club national championships (Florida was 2019 NIRSA (soccer) Champion)...volleyball has NCVF, etc.

I supported club soccer at FSU...women's soccer was only added as a varsity sports in 1998 (Title IX I'd bet). The men are still club only.

I checked out Stanford's AD page to see all of their sports. Men's Lacrosse at UConn would be awesome so the women would have to add a sport or 2. To keep it simple, for now, here are sports sponsored by the Big East in which UConn does not participate
Men - Cross Country, Lacrosse, Swimming & Diving, Tennis
Women - Golf

Women's sports the ACC sponsors that the Big East does not: Fencing, Gymnastics, Rowing

Interesting, UConn Women has Rowing which participates in the CAA along with Nova and UCSD

Don't forget that the University of North Carolina System Board of Governors ruled during the last realignment binge that Chapel Hill couldn't move without the Board of Governors' approval. They will consider how a Chapel Hill move affects the other 16 schools in the system.

That'd be a contentious result given the recent upgrade of the soccer stadium via massive donations.

People keep saying that but it’s just silly. They assume because lots of kids play, it translates to a national program.
 
I think many are discounting the changes that we may see because of recent happenings re football, payment for athletes court case, etc.

Institutional/state support costs will rise...and this will variably impact schools based on their resources and availability of state tax payer support of sports.

Schools may see bumps in funding to be borne by the institution/state tax payer.

The news was not all good, however. The amount of institutional support received by UConn Athletics in fiscal 2024 was $31.7 million, an increase of $1.5 million, or about 5%, from the previous year.
While this amount is down from previous highs, it will probably increase over time,

Ohio State University president Ted Carter portended a bleak future for non-revenue sports at his university and likely across the country in a recent interview with The Columbus Dispatch.

“We’ll still have scholarships, we’ll still have programs,” Carter said. “Some of those sports may start to look and act a little bit more like a club sport, but yet compete at the Division I level and still travel and still compete.”

We are already down the rabbit hole and only federal intervention can slow the progress of the pull of the black hole.

Not to get political..but the WH factoids supporting the recent collegiate sports Exec Order say...
  • Given these enormous, escalating demands on resources to compete in the revenue-generating sports, there are serious concerns regarding the future of non-revenue sports, women’s sports, and Olympic sports, as private-donor money is increasingly concentrated in these third-party, pay-for-play deals. This dynamic also reduces competition and parity by creating an oligarchy of teams that can buy the best players—including the best players from less-wealthy programs at the end of each season, given the lack of restrictions on transferring teams each year.
The Executive Order directs...
  • The Order directs the Secretary of Labor and the National Labor Relations Board to clarify the status of student-athletes in order to preserve non-revenue sports and the irreplaceable educational and developmental opportunities that college sports provide.
  • The Order provides that any revenue-sharing permitted between universities and collegiate athletes should be implemented in a manner that protects women’s and non-revenue sports.

Lip service. If the move is good for UNC, it will be approved.

If UNC went to the SEC, league would have 3 teams in MSOC & WLax.
Probably 4, given the other candidates to join with UNC.

SEC could easily get affiliates to have enough to sponsor.

I still lean towards UNC to the B1G. That conference needs the Heels more.

CT has long been a soccer and lacrosse hot bed and UConn should absolutely be a power in those sports. Not only is the talent there, but the fan interest. You may be right, we may not push those sports, but UConn not excelling in those sports is a disservice to all of us.

I'm all for spending on football, but allocate funds and cut other stuff to do it. Kids in CT are good at soccer and lacrosse and people actually like those sports. They are also growing sports that will generate more and more interest. Obviously, its more complicated than that, but there is a lot of talent in the region. Lacrosse is particularly good in CT.

But how would they sweeten their deal compared to the sec? by offering more than a full revenue share? Dont Think that would sit well with OSU and UM.

Dunno.
But isn’t there usually an interim period before newcomers get a full share? Maybe the B1G offers a shorter timeline than the SEC or just puts more into wooing them?

Longterm demographics are against the B1G. It needs to penetrate some faster growing areas.

The SEC hasn't offered partial share arrangements with any school they invite & really doesn't matter because UNC will not accept the type of deal UW/UO received. UNC expects to have access to revenue to compete at the highest level regardless of conference affiliation given some of the future developments

Yeah the BIG played hard ball with the latest PAC additions but they had all the leverage. Same with the PAC additions to the ACC but I don’t think the PAC additions to the BIG12 have a waiting period, so it depends on the situation. Either way UNC will be able to choose which conference they want so I’d expect a full revenue share immediately.
