We would probably stay in the Big East for soccer as field hockey did in AAC days. AAC didn’t offer it.

First world problem, but conferences often dont let any of your teams stick around when you bolt.
BE/American was a unique largely mutually agreeable split. Any other schools leaving likely isnt. Eg, when JMU announced they were leaving the CAA they were immediatley barred from any conference tournaments.

It's probably more attributable to the fact that it was mutually beneficial to both the big east and Connecticut for our soccer program to stay with them.

Wouldn't ~2028 or 2029 more likely be D-day? If they're leaving after 2030-31, wouldn't announcements be a couple of years in advance of that?

As for UNC wanting SEC: maybe. But reminder #8429 that folks behave strategically. You might say SEC hoping that it will force the B1G to swoop in earlier/bigger.

My guess is that UNC administrators want the B1G while the Athletic department and fans want SEC.

Since they will probably be able to go to either if/when the ACC reckoning comes, it will be an interesting internal battle between the sides.

Yeah, I don’t think that is true. The current UNC administration at both levels is trying to make the SEC happen. I think if you talk to most UNC people, students, fans they think it will be bad for Carolina in every way but financially. Competitively, culturally and every other way. North Carolina my be the South, but they look down their noses at Alabama and Mississippi and Louisiana and the like.

The ACC schools play 5 games against Notre Dame each year which helps make scheduling easier. You don't have to have an even number of schools, but it makes scheduling easier.

Sorry but how? They play 8 conference games a year, 4H 4A. Why would 18 or 20 teams be better than 17 or 19 when they can’t play everyone every year anyways?

It just seems like old fashioned thinking. they aren’t gonna add an extra team that doesn’t bring value just because it makes scheduling slightly easier.

FSU, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Louisville all, annually, play an SEC rival for their 9th "mandated" game.

During conference season, a conference with an uneven number of schools will either have one school taking an off week or trying to find an OOC opponent almost every week. It's not easy to find a quality OOC opponent once October starts.

Faculty members want the B1G along with some old school boosters. The new generation of boosters& leadership think differently & they are in control. NIL & revenue sharing has allowed them to be more aggressive with their vision for the athletic department

Been saying this for years. Very large rapidly growing state — largest state (excl NY) that is not owned by either the SEC or B1G, and is just next door.

No you don’t HAVE to have an even number but most would prefer.
 
The State of North Carolina (businesses, legislature, older fans and boosters) won't love the loss of UNC from the ACC...and there will be pressure from the unified State Board to tie in NC State.

Gone are the days of all championship games being conducted in North Carolina (football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer etc)......If UNC leaves, this all leaves. UNC and the State of North Carolina have been the sun that the ACC system revolves around. When UNC gets ripped away by the gravitational force of the black hole, the whole ACC gets very wobbley.

FSU or Clemson can block any vote that they don't agree with and this shift in power could have ramifications, especially with UNC gone. I see the merchants of North Carolina losing their grasps on incomes derived by the close grip on ACC sports events and thus whining to the state politicians.

I doubt it, to many issues need to be resolved first. Have to figure out how NCSU will be impacted, if gambling revenue is approved then what type of strings come attached with it . Not to mention the fate of the Smith Center & the expected fall out from that.
 
I’m really going to savor the next couple of years with the ACC knowing it’s barreling towards implosion

I see things happen9ng in 2030...

Media contract for the B1G Ten comes due in 2030...SEC in 2034...

But the evolving into a Super conference could happen in the 30"s.

not a lot of Olympic sports left out...

The SEC has men's cross country, volleyball, soccer, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, swimming and diving, goll, rowing, gymnastics, tennis

Women...cross country, gymnastics, rowing, swimming and diving, indoor track and field, golf, tennis, equestrian, softball, volleyball, soccer
