A legit concern is that this meeting is happening basically at the same time as Colorado. If it's true with a GOR for WSU then what are the chances it's the same for Colorado? That would crush our chances and leave us with egg on our face... it doesn't seem like BIG12 expands with just UConn, SDSU and Gonzaga...

Academically and culturally Colorado aligns far more with PAC12 schools like Washington, Cal, Stanford etc than Big12 schools like WVU, KSU, Texas Tech. Wasn't a big part of why they left the first time to align academically etc with the PAC12 conference?

To be clear that agenda is from Washington State... the Colorado board is just posting the material from the tweet above.

Nah.. Colorado simply wouldn't sign the Pac-12 GOR as they were already headed to the Big XII. If Colorado were to sign the Pac-12 GOR.. then that would be disappointing.. but no egg on UConn's face. They did what they needed to do for the school, the opportunity went away, but the school pursuing any and all opportunity is a must do, so no egg even if it doesn't work out. Unless they had already painted the Big XII logo on the court at Gampel.
 
If the P-12 requests signatures from its member schools on a GOR without a media seal proposal (which would be tied to the GOR), that conference would implode in the matter of hours. Oregon, Washington and possibly Stanford and Cal would call the B1G and say "we'll join for any reasonable offer" whe the remainder of the members will call B-12 asking if they have room for everyone.

Nobody is signing away their media rights without a media deal that they believe is worth signing away their rights for. Not even the ACCwas that stupid, although for the life of me I cannot comprehend their singing that lo g od a deal without escalation clauses built in. My only guess is they felt they were sitting on a gold mine with the ACC network and believed the revenues that would generate would make the ESPN deal insignificant.

Keep in mind UConn went public and all out and now the BIG EAST is going to double down on exit fees etc... would they create a GOR to protect themselves? Next time around should it come won't be so easy... especially depending on how far out it is.

When the next BE media contract negotiations begin there is an exceptionally strong likelyhood that the broadcast partner (Fox, others if we put it out to bid) will want this (and also provide an alternate, lesser offer for no GOR). It would be up to us, individually to agree and sign or disagree and face whatever may happen next (I'm confident we are by far the most important school as far as the media is concerned).

They can increase exit fees without our vote (I imagine the vote would go 10-1 for the increase) but I don't know the language of our deal when we returned and if that can be altered without our agreement.

The Big East already doubled down on UConn's exit fees as part of the deal to join. The increased exit fees were designed to ferret out any of the Catholics (Villanova, St. John's, etc) who might have been thinking of that "basketball only" eastern wing that was floated out there. Like FfldCntyFan noted, it's almost certain that the broadcast partner will ask for a GOR and pretty certain that UConn will resist signing it if it thinks there is any chance they can get out.

IIRC, a few years ago they had a plan to make a party deck next to the video board. It never happened, I think Nostical put the kibosh on it.

Pretty sure the ACC payouts do escalate on the back end of their deal - for the last decade or less.

I think the new big east contract would be split between fox and cbs… and to get uconn to sign a gor… maybe cbs would sweeten uconns football contract

CBS would have to pay us $20,000,000 per year for football to get us to sign a 10 year GOR. Not happening.

If that offer is real not only are we screwed on not having an invitation to join the B-12, we can give up on the idea of any real increase coming with the next BE media contract
 
Meant to put this here..Anyone check out CU's message board on realignment? theirs started ALLLL the way back when USC and UCLA left ;). They seem very against the BIG12 that they are above it academically and athletically. A lot of mentions of the BIG10, actually...not that surprised they are against the BIG12... its not really a cultural or academic fit for them. Can't say UW, Cal, Stanford etc have a lot in common with WVU, KSU, OSU etc. They would fit in well with our BBall only group.

That’s what they said when they left the Big 12. But let’s not kid ourselves. Other than Cal, Stanford and maybe Washington there’s no elite academic school let in the Pac12 either. It’s wanna-be elitism and isn’t deserved.

Disagree. No money no signee is good for us. We were never going alone and this brings us back to CU UConn AZ and possibly SDSU or any other defector(s). If CU is ready to pull the trigger then take us both and pick the next 2. AZ probably has a ticket promised already so no hurry for them.

They PAC may have a GOR signing deadline soon. UConn may have an increased exit fee deadline. If the b12 does not act now they could done for a while Or they can focus on SDSU and UNLV in the west and Temple or UMass in the east.
