I'm talking about non rev sports being a part of the athletic department DNA. Many give to the Rams club primarily because of the opportunities scholarship athletes receive & the hope is they return that favor once they graduate by becoming life long donors. Finishing top 10 in the directors cup yearly is a stated goal of the department.

Yeah...but do not think that dynamic does not go on at FSU...the difference is that although UNC is an older, more established, school...FSU's donations of $ 41.7 million far surpass UNC's donations of $19.8 million.....it is a big difference in athletic booster support.

FWIW that's just part of the equation. 20 million are donations to the annual fund but the Rams Club has a independent scholarship fund that alumni/ boosters support yearly that are not included in donations but 5% is withdrawn yearly to cover scholarship cost. In fact the recently concluded fundraising campaign raised close to 300 million for that fund & it currently has assets in the 500 million range & this does not include each sports team operating fund.

Ramses...

I gotcha...like Seminole Boosters Inc...whose headline is 20,000 Members Supporting 20 teams...gives $11 million annually in scholarship costs...The Annual Fund, (12,000 members) gives $17 M annually....Coaches Club (1,500 members) gives $2.5 M annually for specific teams....and on.....

But does Seminole Boosters Inc sponsor a scholarship endowment completely separate from the University's related endowments? That's what I'm talking about, the Rams Club last reported tax return shows 79 million in donations with 28 million transferred to the AD. That leaves 51 million dollars invested somewhere, most going into the scholarship endowment

I realize this ship is long long sailed but man… really fun to think what could’ve been if Joe Pa got his wish of there being a real viable FBS Mid-Atlantic/Northeastern based league

Penn State
Maryland
Temple
Villanova
Navy
Army
Rutgers
UConn
Boston College
UMass
Syracuse
Pittsburgh

Could’ve been an awesome league. Oh well.

UConn wasn't on Paterno's list.

His proposed schools were: West Virginia, Pitt, Penn State, Boston College, Rutgers, Temple, Syracuse, and Maryland, with Virginia Tech, Florida State and South Carolina also considered.

Had Paterno's plan materialized, it's likely UConn would've remained FCS in football and UMass would've joined the OBE in hoops, unless at some point hoops and football merged, which was not really in Paterno's plan (remember, the OBE didn't want PSU hoops).

The landscape of the late 70's/Early 80's, when Joe was trying to put something together, was entirely different than how things are today. At that time, Joe was looking for a way to make scheduling less difficult for Penn State and all of the independent Eastern Schools. Obviously, he nor anybody could have predicted how TV and the $$$ involved with it would change the game. Unfortunately, this league would in no way be viable today. In an alternate reality where the above league existed, we would be watching Penn State and maybe Maryland as a partner doing exactly what USC/UCLA just did to save themselves.

Nova has emerged as the favorite in the east after talks with UConn broke down due to UConn insisting on an all sports invite at a much reduced share.

M h v e r 3 is a WVU troll yes? so, this would be a B12 observation?

Totally understand this- just listed what it likely would’ve evolved to given the trajectory with the BE schools leaving and other teams/schools moving up

If there is any truth to this… its just the money conference’s trying to keep all the other conferences down…the big east is having some success with Uconn and Villanova in the same conference with tv ratings… that said.. it wouldn’t make sense for Villanova to join the big 12…the big 12 would have to over pay for Villanova to want to join them

If talks are happening it’s likely because there are concerns about the Big East tv deal.
The Big 12 is not adding basketball only schools when, in the ST, Pac 12 schools may be available and LT ACC schools may be available. And, the travel costs for an East coast basketball only school would probably not offset any potential revenue increase.

Gotta feeling Nova bumps football up in the next 10 years

Apple negotiations may require PACN to be absorbed by Apple. All broadcasting capitol and Human Resources. This would be reflected in an increase to $26m per school but also requires ORWA stay and a presence in Colorado and SoCal (hence CSU talks starting).

TBS highly interested in B12 basketball in 2030 and will pay a premium if they cannot get what they want from next NBA deal-something to keep an eye on.

Just heard that one Pac President told B12 leadership that they feel like GK is holding the conference hostage with the Apple negotiations. All schools are afraid to make the first move with so many uncertainties in play.

If Big12 can get a solid commitment from FOX or get a 3rd partner give a solid commitment for pro rata on the remaining 33% they can get at least 2 PAC schools in short order

MH ver3@MH ver3

Fox may be gun shy to offer that firm commitment prior to B12 adding because they are afraid of a lawsuit since they’ve already been implicated with USC/UCLA defections.

BY met with 2 P12 presidents in the past 24 hours. Both meetings were incredibly productive. I’m told we are very close to at least 1 of those 2 making a formal request. Still 4 more presidents to meet with over the next few days.

BY possibly has a 3rd media partner on board if Fox is a no go for adding $ for new additions. No $$ yet from the new partner-very early in talks

Is troll writing this? … that would really suck if we lost Villanova

Just not sure what Villanova gets going to the Big12. Talk about being on an island

We wanted all sports which makes sense. But just bball by yourself. I would want 10–12 million

TV money has destroyed college sports.

I don’t know, I cannot see us, refusing to join, unless they gave us a reduced share.
