Not to defend Rutgers; but, they lost because Wisconsin has a Heisman Trophy caliber running back and a much bigger line and Rutgers does not in a came where the weather conditions eliminated the passing game. Pretty simple. Makes UConn's offensive burst against UCF in similar conditions at the Rent even more impressive.

As for Edsall, after the game he started that he did not know that his players pulled that stunt and apologized to everyone under the sun. The Coach is not on the field for pre-game handshakes, so it could happen. I am just giving the guy, even if he did run out the back door, the benefit of the doubt as he did give $25K to Jasper's memorial.

When I said embarrassed, I was referring to the Rutgers stuff going on at the stadium for its first B1G game against Penn State. And I agree that perhaps Edsall didn't know about the handshake business, but those are his captains. It's all his responsibility. Good Lord, can you imagine this year's UCONN team playing a B1G schedule this year? I suspect that, over time (and winning a few NJ recruiting battles), will shrink the competitive chasm between RU and the upper echelon programs like OSU, Wisconsin, MSU, etc. But alas we shall never forget that we are still talking about Rutgers. Rutgers is to athletic department competence as McDonald's is to fighting childhood obesity. Talk a good game but what you get is what you get.

I still maintain being in the B1G could hurt Rutgers recruiting as opposed to helping it. Kids in NJ getting to see Michigan and Ohio State up close, well those are pretty sweet options. Could go either way.

The stuff at the Penn St. game was very poor taste. The Rutgers alumni that I live near and work with were very embarrassed, especially because many of our other neighbors went to Penn St. That's said, no one is surprised that it went on with Julie Hermann in charge. No one I know has any respect for her.

Agree on the Coach is ultimately responsible (unless one is the head coach of the Jets, argh!). But, I honestly believe that Edsall did not know the Captain's were going to do that. Maeyland did lose one of their captains for next week's game though for pushing a ref in the following scuffle.

Good God. Edsall picked captains who did something that was bush league. Not that shot up a 7-11 to steal some hot dogs. Interesting that the people who focused on this haven't once mentioned how Maryland is actually doing on the field.

I stayed out of this but come one. They got curb stomped by both Ohio State at home and Wisconsin on the road. They eeked out a one point win at PSU, in Franklin's first year there. Just like his arrogance came back and bit him against Navy while at UConn, when Franklin gets his chance he is going to hang 60 on Edsall if he is still there.

B1G reprimanded Edsall, fined Maryland 10K, and suspended Maryland team Captain Diggs for a game (and a big one at that against Michigan St). Messages sent.

Adding schools will increase inventory which, in theory, will hopefully increase the value of the ESPN contract even if it weakens the conference. The question becomes what is the tradeoff of adding 2 or more lousy programs vs the potential increase in dollars.

It has also been rumored recently that Aresco is seeking a GOR from AAC schools. Maybe this is his tool to get the GOR. If UConn signs a GOR with this dumpster fire conference it immediately becomes time for heads to roll

No, AAC exit fees are cheap but GoR (if they are enforceable) take away the value of the destination conference, not the conference you are departing. If UConn left the AAC for the B1G, they would be handing all their valuable B1G games to the AAC and its media partner.

Yes, per the recent case study in the ACC: The exit fee was raised with 3/4 majority; the GoR required unanimity.

If a GoR requires unanimity, maybe UConn could carve out its own TV rights and market them itself. Let the conference members choose to be part of the GoR or to self-market. I think a UConn Network in Connecticut would do OK, and UConn could sell national games on the side, and regionally to SNY or NESN. At any rate, it would be a fair test of market power.

First we need to win in football before we continue to bash the AAC in its entirety. I don't want to be here but our football team has shown we don't belong any where else yet. I have confidence that we will win with Coach D but until that time we need to be careful who we slam. We are not in any position to scream superiority over our other conference members.

In regards to adding teams. We cannot bring anyone in until we can get a better revenue stream. Marshall, Massachusetts, N. Illinois, Rice, etc just don't bring enough revenue on their own. Also I think we will see that overall decisions are made beyond just football. Possibly bring in schools with strong academic ties (which is why Umass, Rice is here) to go with a Navy coming next year.
