I could see ND joining the Big 10 in the future. Why? The Big 10 is not just a Midwest brand anymore with the additions of Rutgers and Maryland on the East Coast and USC/UCLA/Washington/Oregon on the West Coast. Grab 2 or 3 ACC schools and you have a broad footprint. ND could play a 9 game conference schedule, Navy, and 2 other OOC games. Look at Notre Dame's all time games played: 1) Navy, 2) USC, 3) Purdue, 4) Michigan St., 5) Pitt, 6) Army, 7) Northwestern, 8) Michigan, 9) Georgia Tech, 10) Stanford, 11) Indiana, 12) Air Force

Could be why the Irish just inked a 12 year scheduling deal (outside of their ACC commitment) to play Clemson annually for 12 years. They may be bolstering their future schedule anticipating needing that annual game.

If the ACC implodes many ND fans may prefer a return to the Big East Conference. A primarily Catholic conference with a few schools within driving distance and many basketball games within greater Metropolis. ND basketball may actually turn things around with regular visits to major cities and more regional competition. The only catch would be if the ugly stepchild from boston somehow convinced ND to bring it along too. I suppose cuse and bcu would be an acceptable compromise.
