OT: Non Husky Topic. If you think Michael Jordan was the GOAT.....

Read this last week. Interesting, doesn’t change the fact that he was an all-time defender in his prime, but certainly can be a stain.

If Jordan played no defense like Kyrie, or played average defense, nothing much changes.

And home cooking has often existed to a degree.

Jordan didn't even have a 3 point shot back then because it wasn't important. But looking at the way he made deep range fadeaway 2 pointers there is no question he would have become elite at that too.

.-.
I lived through then Jordan era. I watched the refs give Shaq a technical because he gave Jordan a look, seriously, and it was a playoff game.

There is star treatment in the NBA, then there is the way the league treated Jordan. They knew he was the league's meal ticket and they became a hype syndicate for his royal Airness. He was great but he also the beneficiary of favored treatment on the court that inflated his greatness. Even Bird and Magic didn't get the friendly whistles or non-whistles Jordan got.

BTW, the WNBA should learn this leasson.

The most interesting part is how many people use that Defensive Player of the Year award as a cudgel in their GOAT debates. He was a great defender. But without those home stats, which were way out of whack from what he did on the road, he wouldn't have won the award. It does have an impact.

The GOAT debate is from 6 straight rings minus the baseball experiment. Never being in a game 7 during that run.

I thought he was a better player before he started winning rings, or at least more fun to watch.

Bron shoulda won it in 2013 as well

why do you consistently lie like this all the time?

At the end of the day, home books padded stats heavy in the 80s and early 90s c'mon....

So, I'm sure they actually may have a minor gripe - but since it's clear that Klutch Sports is behind this, do you really want to open Pandora's Box on LeBron?

That dude NEVER GETS INJURED... also looks 5x the size he was at 18... But what do I know?

They’re both so obviously above everyone else in basketball. It’s not like most other sports where there is 1 guy who is pretty much consensus.

Baseball is weird because of how old and how much it has changed.

Many different aspects to compare the two, cool to debate about though.

MJ wasn't even involved in this incident - I remember it well - you must have watched something else

Plus what WNBA team or player are you specifically addressing

That was a horrible call- clearly no Jordan involvement either.
But the thing that bothered me the most is the steve kerr front end clank. Not sure why. I can't watch it again.

The traveling epidemic in the NBA was largely influenced by NBA refs who refused to call Jordan for traveling. Once they started to let Jordan take 4 or 5 steps the genie was out of the bottle. The refs missed the call in the pre-Jordan era. But they incorporated it into the game to accommodate MJ.

Of Jordan wanted to beat you and send a message while doing it, he could almost at will. None of the other pretenders could do that, not LeBron, not Kobe, not even Wilt or Kareem against their main competition (mostly Boston).

MJ could and did, consistently. That's why he's the GOAT analytics and cherry picked stats be damned.

Weird how all this 90’s suck and Jordan revisionist history starts when LeBron is about to retire. Lebron has been revising his own history on his podcast lol
