I'm glad this is getting main stream attention.

Wow that sheds a lot of light on the situation (assuming true).

I can see the NCAA's POV for the first offense, in a way. Ryan's family did receive an improper benefit because of his basketball ability. It's good for UConn that this confirms the money was from Reggie Rose for his mom to visit schools with him (not UConn exclusively, if even UConn). I can't imagine Reggie Rose needs any money from any school at this point (considering his brother is a multi-millionaire)

At the same time, it's a bit odd considering what happened with Cam Newton. I guess this differs because Boatright knew about it, or should have. All-in-all it doesn't seem to be something that should warrant a 6 game suspension.

It will be interesting to see what this new thing is.

Why isn't that article in a Connecticut newspaper? Just thinking out loud there.
As Mr. Wonderful would say, there are crickets with the local newspapers about this story.

I thought the NCAA proceedings were closed. So how is Nocera getting his information?

Not understanding how a ticket bought for his mom is a violation for Ryan, especially one that should cost him 6 games. Also have to echo Fishy's sentiments, none of the CT writers have the ability to actually do investigative work and write this kind of story?

Now we just need Yahoo sports and sportscenter to pick up on it to make it real news and the ncaa will listen.

They are too busy writing the exact same articles as there competitors everyday. "Calhoun not happy with perimeter D. "AO not playing well" They have such insight:rolleyes:

What a pleasant surprise! haha:D. Everyone should make a concerted effort to Xpose the NCAA for what it is.

Excellent article, and most of all an awareness that this is a PR war, something I was trying to say next weekend. This will be very explosive with another article coming on Tuesday and perhaps one more. Emmert better be careful he may become part of the story very soon.

....great article so far....just one thing.....the ND game was not going to be Boatright's 4th game back.

Looking forward to Part 2...

Ding. Ding. Ding. If Boatright were in a union, the Courant would be all over it.

It's better that the NY Times, rather than a Connecticut paper, publish the article so that no one can accuse the writer of being a homer. But now that the Times has pried open the subject, it's astonishing to me that the Connecticut papers are ignoring it. Also, I'm amazed that the NCAA had no problem with Cam Newton's father asking for money but keeps suspending Boatright. On top of that, the NCAA let the Ohio State football miscreants play in a bowl game. etc. etc. What a screwed-up organization.

The NCAA continually gives SEC schools little slaps on the wrist (there has been at least one SEC school on some form of football probation every season since 1979) but this is more for show than anything else. The reality is they will not come down hard on any SEC school out of fear that the SEC will take their football conference (along with all other sports), leave the NCAA to start a new athletic association (and in the process bring along every conference that wants to view itself as a major sports conference).

Reggie Rose is on the NCAA's most wanted list. They will be petty and malicious towards anyone associated with him and his AAU program as long as they have the ability to do so.

Borges reports RB didn't travel with the team. Should I read anything into this?

Yes, it means that our athletic department decided it would do more harm than good to have CBS zoom in on Ryan in street clothes a few times today and remind the nation that we are being investigated.

No, he's not allowed to travel with the team during the investigation. ND was an exception since he was already there

I bet Pete Thamel tried to block the story from being printed :D

And to further Fishy's question - when was the last time the Courant broke an important UConn athletics story?

It is going to start thundering and hailing on Emmert soon. This first story is just Nocera teeing things up.
