Yes, it means that our athletic department decided it would do more harm than good to have CBS zoom in on Ryan in street clothes a few times today and remind the nation that we are being investigated.

Maybe so - and that was a mistake - Ryan has now become a compelling human interest story - but the networks tread carefully on the NCAA due to mutual economic interest in TV contracts.

Gotta love how Ryan can't play over this BS, yet his likeness can still appear in an ESPN commercial promoting Gameday.

Nocera published an article about the hypocrisy of the NCAA and big time college athletics in the Sunday NYT magazine a few weeks ago and is basically hunting the NCAA every day.

But as Chief pointed out Ryan's story is personal and compelling. It's hard for people to wrap their minds around whether a punishment is appropriate or consistant. It takes too much thought. It is easier to picture this kid getting a chance to play in front of 400 family and friends only to have the rug yanked out from underneath him at the 11th hour. This story has legs and, depending on what else is happening during any given news cycle, it may take off.

Why isn't that article in a Connecticut newspaper? Just thinking out loud there.
In terms of reporting, yes the CT papers are behind on this. In terms of opinion, at least Jacobs took a break from his tirades on Calhoun's demeanor to make a case similar to the one Nocera made.

Didn't know Ryan had to pay back $100/month for the ticket. Why couldn't the school pay off the debt incurred from these violations the way Kansas repaid all of Josh Selby's bills?

The NCAA continually gives SEC schools little slaps on the wrist (there has been at least one SEC school on some form of football probation every season since 1979) but this is more for show than anything else. The reality is they will not come down hard on any SEC school out of fear that the SEC will take their football conference (along with all other sports), leave the NCAA to start a new athletic association (and in the process bring along every conference that wants to view itself as a major sports conference).

Reggie Rose is on the NCAA's most wanted list. They will be petty and malicious towards anyone associated with him and his AAU program as long as they have the ability to do so.
Do you have any idea who the other players on that AAU team were and what universities they are playing for?
