No Whaley

I was only able to listen to the game (traveling for the holiday), but even the guys covering the game were on the refs. Sounds like there was a lot of push offs underneath for rebounds that went uncalled. Did see the last 2 minutes. I know refs don't want to penalize a kid going for the ball, but intentional or not, if the contact leads to a turnover, then the call has to be made. Martin would not have landed out of bounds if the Spartan player didn't ride him out.

How did my comment elicit such venom? I never mentioned Hurley's coaching other than about Gaffney's PG abilities. I mentioned a lack of "heady play" down the stretch. Someone pee in your stuffing today?
It was a general comment about comments in this thread about Hurley losing focus and other insights into his mind that nobody here has a clue about. I don’t have time to reply to all posts . Sorry if you think it was all aimed at you or that it was even “venomous.” Silly. I think someone peed in your gravy. Relax, it only basketball.

. I want to fight that ref who called a foul while he’s behind the players at a pretty far distance

Whaley was missing out there and it showed… gave up a lot of 50 50 balls and boards he usually gets.

Hurley has to give Hawkins more rope and Sanogo has to pass more. 2 assists on the year is unacceptable. He cannot be our go to guy either for a good offense. Even Emeka had Ben. The fact we were going to him for end of shot clock plays was mind blowing.

When Gaffney gets in the "let's slow down and set things up" mode, we become an very average team; we stagnate and are not good at that pace of play. Before criticizing Gaffney, I wondered if he is just executing coach's instructions. I'm guessing, but it seems that is more of a Gaffney trait...or Cole would be doing it as well - he's not.

I’m not sure the refs cost us the game but they have been really bad in our 2 games. and We got the benefit of a few calls in the Auburn game. Too many anticipated foul calls in both games while missing many obvious ones. Anyways while we should have won yesterday I’m still high on our guys And love this team. I expect them to bounce back today.

College games have runs and momentum changes, and poor plays by both teams are expected. If your standard is perfect execution you're in dreamland. While bad calls are also part of the game (college refs tend to be lousy), at the end of the day, it is hard for a group of officials to affect the outcome of a game more than they did yesterday.

Have you ever passed out from exhaustion and then competed in a D1 sport 18 hours later? You can't be serious with this take.
He should be able to reviver and go at that age and level of conditioning unless he’s sick. I would assume he has the flu or something percolating.

The recruiting has been great. But we need a stud PG recruit. The ceiling for a team led by Cole is probably the 2nd round. Maybe sweet 16. And obviously gaffney is not the answer. Jury still out in diggins.
No it is not.

Then I would assume that you didn’t see his shorts after the game on Wednesday. They were literally soaking wet with sweat. There was no battling harder or longer than him.

COLE is the one limiting this team's ceiling? That is certainly a hell of a take. Let me offer some alternatives:

  • Jackson and Whaley have decided that scoring is lame.
  • We have 2 consistent ballhandlers instead of 3 or 4--one of whom can't play the PG and isn't actually that good of a ballhandler.

Despite all this we have a hell of a team because of our defense and some early lights out shooting. Finally playing faster helps a lot too.

But the idea that Cole is limiting us is nuts. The kid is averaging 13/2/4.5 with only 1.7 TOs. He's shooting 42% from 3, was the ONLY player to hit a 3 for us yesterday, and played fantastic defense late despite the boneheaded call. He's making his FTs in the clutch. Yeah, the kid isn't Kemba or Shabaz... but that's a high-major caliber starting PG if I ever saw one.

I shall repeat my question: Have you ever passed out from exhaustion and played a sport at a high level 18 hours later?

I'll make it easier: have you ever passed out from exhaustion and competed in ANY sports 18 hours later?

Because this take is just as stupid as the first time I heard it.

Try any average college football summer camp pre rule changes going 3 times a day with contact 7 days a week for a few few weeks. Yes. I know of very few athletes that pass out from exhaustion unless they are sick. They may be sore, fatigued and operating at less than optimal levels, but no they can go. The nurse has the correct answer.

That was very intense high level play, but if he hydrates properly maybe some limited minutes. Doctors have has plenty of time to check him out to make sure.

;) RJ has been chastised since he got here. But he shows his grit and toughness game in and game out period.

I think they split the difference. Play him, but not in long stretches and not for more than 20 minutes. That should be enough to keep him safe. Maybe he comes off the bench as the backup 5.

Whaley now a 3 threat opens up a lot of possibilities. He’s open so shoot.

Seems you forgot that game when Whaley took a 3 at the end and missed for a loss. Whaley didn't have a single friend here.
