I'm going out on a limb thinking the hush about DD's high ankle sprain isn't good! I could be wrong and they could just be treating and waiting but I'm not expecting him to play for a while.

Hope I eat crow!

Youd think the beat guys would be clammoring to get any info they could.

I'm not concerned. Let him sit out 2 or 3 games (2 weeks?) or more if he needs it. We need him healthy for UL/AAC Tourney

As several others have mentioned, a high ankle sprain takes a few weeks to heal.

Good news is that there's a 12 day stretch with only the home game against Houston. I would like him to be ready for Cincy, but if he isn't you move on without him. After Cincy is a road game against UCF which doesn't worry me.

Bottom line is that if he has to miss Houston, @Cincy and @UCF in order to be healthy for the rest of the season, conference tourney and NCAA's, then I'm okay. Even without him UConn should go 2-1 at worst.

Just from past experience, if it's a standard, run of the mill high ankle sprain, I think the 2/12 home game against USF is his first game back so that he has the rust knocked off before the Memphis game on 2/15.

Cincy's Justin Jackson sprained his ankle in the Temple game on Sunday and is currently day-to-day. He should be back by the time they play UConn, but it's definitely something to monitor.

The team probably only had one practice since Saturday, and not one that the media would be covering.

Plus unless DeAndre has somehow healed 100% in 2 days, I'm sure he took it easy at practice yesterday or maybe sat out the entire thing. Either way, it's not like that tells us anything about his availability on Thursday.

So I'm not really sure that a meaningful update can be given at this point.

Saw him on campus today, he is in a boot.

I really really really have to question whyhe played in the second half of the Rutgers game if he's having to walk around campus in a boot.

Remember Scott Hazelton? He had a high ankle sprain, they put him in a boot. But he didn't like the boot, so he just took it off and did what he liked. He never healed that season.

Hope DD leaves the boot on and takes it easy. These kids play a huge role in their recoveries. How seriously they take it is very important.

if you sprain your ankle there's a high probability trainers are going to make you wear a boot regardless for precaution. Nobody on here knows the severity of his injury, if dude told the coaching staff he wanted to play through it, why are we questioning it? In a postgame tweet Borges said his injury didn't seem too serious, but who knows.

It's very common.

With a high ankle sprains, the swelling and stiffness start later. It's not immediate. And you do no further damage to it by playing. I was at the NFL AFC championship when Gronkowski played with much more mobility in the game that he got hurt than he he was capable of 2 weeks later in the Super Bowl.

I hope its good news. If we're thinking any sort of run in the tourney he must be healthy. Heck I wish he can be ready by Cincinnati... we need his scoring badly.

An athlete saying they want to play through an injury? Shocking haha.

I'm just saying, until he got an MRI on it who really knows the severity? But to put your second best player out there vs Rutgers in January seems reckless.

Given DD's reputation as being soft I think quite a few people were surprised to see him back out there, KO even sounded suprised that he wanted to give it a go. I don't even think anyone knows if it was actually a high ankle sprain, that's what KO said postgame but at halftime the information relayed to the media was that it was a twisted ankle and that he was questionable to return.

I would just believe someone could get an "actual update"?? Thanks to feedthedove for his insight, it's something for sure……...

Assuming DD sits the next few games, I'd have to assume Giffey starts in his place. Who does this mean more back-up minutes for - Nolan, Facey,or (maybe) Tolksdorf?

I think some good news is that we have a week off after the Houston game.

That's about 34 minutes KO will need to distribute. Figure Giffey picks up 10-15, then Omar picks up 15-20 (if he plays well enough), then I would figure either Facey gets 5-10 or it's possible we might see Nolan or Tyler at the 4 for a few minutes. Interesting to see how it plays out.
