The fans and the media may have had an effect on the KO deal but I suspect that it was WM's plan all along to wait for the grades. If there was any effect my guess is it sped things up maybe a couple weeks. You are free to think otherwise, but I'm not going to go out of my way to have UConn's name dragged in the mud in the national media just in the hopes it speeds up a coaching change.

i'm talking about schools jockeying positions trying to get the b10 invite and was using recruiting as a simple comparison. i prob didn't come across correctly. my bad. we were in a good spot not to long ago. things were quiet and we were active with ruty. then we flunked our fball program and warde did nothing about it. our issues at the time were everything from kos contract and the fball program and so on and add to that the uva president issue and the b10 put the brakes on and added 2 teams instead of 4. we were in good shape and wardes inactiveness helped curve JD's mind that maybe he should hold off on uconn and uva becuase both have some issues. if it was just the uva pres, then maybe he goes thru with it becuase its not such a hot mess that 1 of the 4 teams has a issue. now 2 of the 4 looks to ugly perception wise. get it? so uconn is still high on the list with uva and its a matter of time.

now tho, with spots open other acc teams are going to sniff around and try to get in. look at gtech and unc for examples. now uconn doesn't match up as well. we do in fact bring great tv number no matter how many ppl here say we dont have nyc or boston and all that crap. JD wanted uconn and ruty so the b10 can own nyc in the future as thats vauable to the b10N. problem is schools like unc are syaing well our tv stats are xzy and we can do this and that. now look at uconn, the ad isn't hiring the bball coach, they may never recover and look at fball its dying and so on. other schools are negatively recruiting against uconn for a b10 invite. every day warde is here we are ourselves harder. susan is doing all she can on her side but she doesn't understand the sports side of it.

The B1G definitely has not made any overtures towards UConn, to my knowledge, but how do you get the impression we have never been on their radar?

Again... I say this is a 5-10 year process, so how we "look" in terms of football in 2012 is not a factor to the B1G. I think we're on their radar (as in on a long list, not short list) but only if they don't make any moves for 5 years. If they would have gone to 16 in 2012 or the next couple years, it wouldn't matter what our football record is because they're going to take somebody else first anyways. I believed that before and I will continue to believe it until I see credible (i.e., non messageboard, non-CR tweep) evidence that UConn is high on their list. But I will also continue to believe that Uconn should make a five year plan for athletics and academics to be in position down the road. Also, I am very confident that if the Big Ten moves to 16+ in the next year and UConn isn't invited, it will not be because of what Warde Manuel did or did not do with respect to the football staff in 2012. It will be overall football and athletic track record, and it will be potential for future success, stadium expansion, market growth beyond the term of the current football coach and AD. It should be obvious, when the Big Ten invites a school they're looking at them for life, not a decade or two like other conferences might. They added Rutgers University, not Tim Pernetti and Kyle Flood. Tim Pernetti and Bob Mulcahey and their presidents helped get them to the point they are now, and that's what we need SH and WM to do. Long term project.

(and... it's worth remembering that no team is leaving the ACC until Maryland's exit fee is resolved. That's what's holding the next B10 expansion back).

However it is worth re-noting that it is on the record that UConn's short term football record and lackluster fan support was a factor for Louisville getting picked over us, along with geography (markets be damned), to the ACC. Could WM have tried to position UConn to be more attractive to the ACC by firing PP mid-year? Realistically, I just don't think it would have made us any more attractive. I just don't see it. The plateaued trajectory of the program, the fan apathy, the academics of the MBB team, and years of less than stellar fundraising are 100% traceable to Jeff Hathaway's reign of mediocrity. Unfortunately we can't kick him around anymore so I guess the next best thing is to bash Warde. Meanwhile in 2013 if fans don't buy tickets and we see a 60% empty Rentschler in the 3rd quarter against Michigan how do you think the ACC and BigTen will view UConn?

If he comes in and fires PP right away what does that say to other prospective head coaches.....hey we'll give you a year and if you don't take us to a BCS game you're fired....no he is giving PP some time to do his thing and if it doesn't work out then he is gone and it tells other coaches that they will be allowed time to build a program and not be expected to fabricate a powerhouse in 7 months...it is a 15 - 20 year process

We did not make the initial screening list the Big Ten worked off of when they started to think expansion in 2008 or 2009 - we have not climbed onto their long, short or medium list in the interim. I wish that was not the case, but it is.

Hard to see that changing - if the Big Ten has two spots to fill, and whether they fill those spots now, five years or ten years down the road, there's little reason to think that they'll want UConn. Smallish market, not contiguous, no AAU (at present), etc. (Please, please don't say that we bring the NYC market...it sounds just as stupid when we say it as it does when RU or SU fans say it.)

Unless the Big 12 has some insane master plan that we're unaware of, we really only have one lifeline - and even that is not certain. If the ACC needs to add teams five years from now and we've been wrecked by our inclusion in a mid-major conference, we could be in trouble.

Part of me thinks we need to throw any and all standards to the curb and just forget we're even a university when it comes to athletics. (aka The Louisville Gambit)

If we went D-1A long ago, we probably wouldn't be where we are. It took UConn quite a while to grow in the shadows of all the private institutions here. Our student body was puny in the early 1900s. But the way things are unfolding, we are absolutely the #1 public university in the direct northeast. At least academically. Personally, don't know whether to include Penn State in the northeast, mid-Atlantic or the midwest. But if we include them in the northeast, we are #2.

We're talking about adults making important decisions, and the idea that they'd kowtow to the lunatic fringe is ridiculous. His entire decision making process remained unchanged from day one. From the get go he said he wanted to see how he coached and how grades panned out. He waited until he had a satisfactory answer to each of those and then gave him the extension.

media ppl are not harvard poster childs. they don't usually have a dam clue or are just not that smart. they just got really good with microsoft word and watching sports. your kidding yourself if u dont think the talking heads check fan opinions on social media and message board type platforms to help get a idea of whats going on at any school. they feed off what the fans are saying or against and play different sides on purpose. a ton off ppl here were going nuts about the ko contract. some local horde ppl started getting in on it questioning the fans then the school and pros and cons bs. then the national media during games started to join in. its all a chain effect. it started with some ppl here and elsewhere who were fans or just knew what we had and they wern't happy with what the contract was. that spread to a pr nightname for uconn.

This isn't exactly right away due to the fact that PP is heading into his 3rd yr and this year was atrocious in the 2nd half of Big East games especially. Losing DB isn't giving me a warm and fuzzy feeling either. I understand that this is Wm's first go round with PP, but the proof is in the pudding concerning the results on the field. I would think there are coaches out there that can see where they could make improvements. I will watch, but not too optomistic with the status quo.
