With the Machowski defense the standard opening is knight to C3.We all know this is the guy. High percentage 3 ball shooter with a well-rounded game. 4th year player, solid skills at the point, sees the floor, good passer. A one year fill in for Solo and some added depth/ insurance in the backcourt as well.
Leaves a spot open for the '27/28' season for Hurley and staff to work their recruiting magic and get another top guard in here. Along with Mullins and Demary most likely moving on that will be 3 big spots to fill.
Anyone have comments on Nils Machowski's defense?
I get that scoring is always the headline, but I haven’t really seen us linked to anyone in the portal yet who can consistently break a defender down one-on-one (other than Wilkins) and get into the lane. It’d be nice to add a more athletic, downhill type, someone who can create off the dribble and open things up for everyone else.
Nothing against a catch and shoot guy like Nils, there’s definitely value in that but based on the little bit I’ve seen, he looks more methodical than explosive. Could be totally off there, just going off limited clips that I have seen
Seems like we don’t even waste time bringing guys in for an “exploratory” visit. I wouldn’t be surprised if these guys verbal before and the visit is a formality lol. The zoom call with the staff probably gives everyone all the info they need to make a decisionCorrect me if I'm wrong, but is UConn now 3-for-3 with transfer additions once they officially visit? If so, that's just lethal precision.
I love how Hurley and his staff don't have a wide net, but when they focus in, they snipe.

I imagine for the transfers there are a couple zooms to get to know them, the agent and Tom Moore hammer out a number they both can agree on, and then the visit is to really get that final approval on him as a person and sign the dotted line essentially.Seems like we don’t even waste time bringing guys in for an “exploratory” visit. Not too concerned about a Mahaney repeat as Aiden was brought in to fill starters minutes while this guy is likely fourth or fifth in the guard pecking order. We must be the highest profile team going after him, so I’d be shocked if we don’t get him. I just really hope he’s not AM 2.0.
We need a solid backup for Silas. Imagine how this season would have spiraled if we didn’t have Mali.
I believe that the deleted earlier thread had a post that said his team was awful defensively, but that he was net neutral, which suggested he was better than his teammates and that he'd project favorably on a notably better defensive team. Speculation was that he'd respond to coaching and greater emphasis on defense.Anyone have comments on Nils Machowski's defense?
Good point…but I’m not sure Am could have filled Mali’s spot either. I think we need a Mali level pg at a minimumNot too concerned about a Mahaney repeat as Aiden was brought in to fill starters minutes while this guy is likely fourth or fifth in the guard pecking order.
