I don't have the time or energy to compare last night to other week's games but here are the initial numbers.

Highest rated show on TV is usually good.

Further on down, it compares the ratings to last year's games.

Looks like Uconn vs. Michigan destroyed last year's Clemson vs. FSU game and almost doubled the Oklahoma vs K State game from last year.

Here are the highlights of the six ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (9/22/12):
NBC(6.02 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.9, #1) took home top honors with its coverage of"College Football: Michigan at Notre Dame"(6.02 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.9, #1).
ABC(4.36 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.7, #2) then had to settle for second place with its broadcast of"College Football: Clemson at Florida State"(4.36 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.7, #2).
Next up wasCBS(4.93 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T3) with encores of"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation"(4.40 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.6, #6),"Criminal Minds"(5.18 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T4) and"48 Hours Mystery"(5.24 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 0.9, #3).
And finally,"College Football: K-State at Oklahoma"(2.83 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T4) onFOX(2.83 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T3) closed out the evening.

Wow. So, more than Clemson-FSU and more than KState-OU! Damn, it would have been sweet to finish yesterday out. But at least we left some people with the taste of UConn in their mouths...

That is very impressive. The Fiesta Bowl lead to an "uptick" in recruiting. I am guessing ratings like this can only help more.

America has spoken - it needs its UConn fix.

If the power conferences will just form a line to the left, we'll begin the interviews and we'll let you know which one we'll be joining.

I was texting with friends across the country and everyone was watching our game.

I have a buddy in the Chicago area that is a big Purdue fan, and he was emailing me messages during the game too. That ABC area map gave us some real nice exposure...

If last night didn't give Jim Delany a taste of what UCONN can deliver to the B1G, I don't know what will. A competitive game with a rowdy crowd littered with celebrities. An opportunity for northeast B1G alum to easily get to our stadium...I heard lots of "Michigan usually doesn't come out this far east so I HAD to come" talk from Michigan fans last night. The same will surely apply to fanbases like OSU, Nebraska, Wisconsin, etc. I like how Warde (or whoever) used the opportunity to make sure all of the former Huskies in attendance were shown on cam and/or interviewed to reinforce the UCONN family concept. You couple all of this with strong TV ratings in a year that UCONN is 0 and friggin' 3 with a lousy coaching staff and you would be blind NOT to see the potential in UCONN.

But last nights game was well behind the Michigan - ND game from a year ago with 6.02 million viewers.

Last night on the major networks you had 6.78 million people watching two football games.

A year ago on the major networks you had 13.26 million people watching football.

Seriously! 800 thousand difference for a sexy ND vs. and 0-2 UConn is not huge. It says more positive for UConn than negative.

There is a reason why NBC pays ND the large amount of cash they pay them.

It was great exposure for the Big Ten - those 5M UConn fans who tuned in also got to see Michigan.

I saw those numbers too. I was trying to find the LSU/Auburn ratings on ESPN and try and find a way of finding the total number of CFB viewers last night as compared to last year.

The quoted ABC ratings are for the combined Michigan/UCONN and Texas/Kansas St games as the broadcasts were regional. But, the UCONN was shown to a higher % of the country.

No matter, it. Is still a solid rating. It also shows you that if you have a quality opponent, a good time slot, and a major network, UCONN can draw viewers.

Yup. And they can draw and HOLD viewers when they are o-2 with a lousy coach in a year that they lost to Towson.

I'm pretty sure we also got plenty of B1G fans tuning in with the hopes of seeing Michigan get beat. The exposure we got was like no other and, irregardless of the results, did us a world of good.

Exactly. The draw was Michigan obviously. But fans turned the channel over to our game because they were beaten up against the ropes in a hostile environment that, at least, used to have a good perception of being a solid home-field advantage. What they saw was an excited UCONN fanbase in a TERRIBLE season getting behind the team. One can only draw the conclusion that if the stadium was that jacked for a PP led 0-2 team, imagine what it would be like for a (insert your favorite coaching candidate's name here) led 2-0 team.

Wow! So you are saying that a winless UConn draws moderately less than a decent Notre Dame squad. I am shocked, shocked I say, by that news. Clearly, we are doomed.

Last year both ND and Michigan were ranked teams; this year Michigan was playing an unranked, winless opponent. And you can't discount the fact that NBC advertises upcoming Notre Dame games like they're the Second Coming.

Same here. I had Ohio St and FSU fans sending me messages throughout the game.

Yeah, the 3 Michigan fans sitting in front of (refused to talk to the 4th who was a pompous arse), admitted that their Ohio St friends were texting beginning in the 3rd quarter basically saying, ‘we can’t wait to see you/crush you.’ If Michigan commits that many turnovers against Ohio St, they are dead.

Last night you had 6.48 million people not watching football on network TV who were watching football on network TV year ago.

The UConn game was on at the same time as LSU-Auburn, Alabama-Colorado, Texas A&M-SMU and Stanford-Arizona State, all better known programs. Considering UConn was an 18 point underdog, it's remarkable that 5 million people watched the game.
