Every year, my friends and I love to assign nicknames/catch phrases to players on the roster.
Some examples from recent years include:

J-Lamb goes bam! (Whenever Jeremy Lamb would hit a 3)
Shabazz got SWAGGER!!! (Whenever Shabazz would hit a 3 or make a big time play)
The price is BOATRIGHT! (Whenever Ryan Boatright would hit a 3)
Turnce up!! (Whenever T-Sam would do something on defense)
Giffey the energy guy!! (Whenever Niels hit a 3, got a rebound or saved a loose ball)
Phillip the stat sheet!/Nolan is rollin'! (Whenever Nolan didn't do something bad)
Springs!! (Whenever anyone would have a huge dunk for us)

Anyways, I'm curious as to whether or not my friends and I are the only ones who do this or if there are other people out there who also like doing this. If not, you should try it, its really fun and its our own versions of Bill Raftery's catch phrases.

I don't take it that far but some of that sort of thing does come naturally. My crew calls hero mode or Kemba mode when Shabazz starts jacking those 25 footer heat checks

Actually, I did hear Mike Mutnanski on WEEI refer to Giffey as "the German Hammer." Kinda liked it.

In the early 1990's, Bob Cousy and Tom Heinson would list the Celtics on the floor as "zips" (quick players) and "zaps" (bigger/post players).

me and a buddy would say SCISSOR KICKS FOR 3! when Bazz hit those stepback 3's... After cringing of course when he shot the ball. It was always so awkward of a shot on those 3s where he sorta pulls back and kicks his feet forward. But damn they went in... so I can't complain too much.

Umm no, nicknames should come naturally if you have to reach for them its not worth it. Stuart Scott really tries to reach with nicknames as does Berman ESPN tries way too hard to be funny. I do like the nicknames Skip Bayless comes up with lol.

Sometimes I used to yell, "WHY --- DID YOU DO THAT?!" when Tyler took a three-pointer. Or I'd say, "ARE YOUR HANDS PARALYZED?!" when Amidah would drop a rebound. Or "SOMEBODY CRUSH MY HEAD WITH THIS REMOTE CONTROL!" whenever we played Louisville.

Oh, us and our silly catchphrases!

Bazz the Killer! I shout whenever he hits a big shot (usually a 3) which he seemed to do on a regular basis. The name stuck because my nephew would remark when Bazz hit a late shot that seem to just take the life out of the other team. "Bazz killed them with that shot! Game over!" I just started calling him the killer. Not the greatest but quite fitting just ask michigan st. and kentucky.

Do you pronounce his name like the french Philippe? That's the only way that comes close to rhyming

Another one is shouting "Boatright" like Seinfeld's old Chinese restaurant owner would shout "Cartwright" at George Costanza.

Everyone feel free to take on that one next year. Man I am so pumped we got the Boatshow coming back, kid is such a Husky hero in my eyes now after the way his game matured and the raw emotion you'd see in his face every big moment. He's larger than life, I hope Ollie can get his buddy AI in town to mentor the kid and maybe teach him some tricks he can use to stick around in the league

Well, I started referring to Phil as Flopping Phil now all my friends do too. Especially after the Poythress spin move.

Berman stole that bit from the great but extinct Creem magazine. I still laugh when I remember them referring to former MTV weenie as Kurt "Rear" Loder.
