For the football team:eek::eek:, #7 actually as they rack them up. But his profile lists him as an excellent hoopster at St Marks, relentless motor and very good rebounder/athlete……….

2 sporter?

Diaco and staff on a run - he and KO are a lot a like I believe.

I've talked with a family member of one of the players (forget who - kid from Glastonbury), but she claims that the team loves Diaco.

He has also been playing his AAU ball for the NE Playaz along with Tyler Lydon (Syracuse) and Jared Reuter (Undecided)

Strong defender inside and out, relentless on the glass, tough, high motor. Kind of everything you'd expect from a football/basketball player. Similar style to Kromah only stronger and a better rebounder.

I'd love a two sport player. Fun to watch.

Randy Gunther from Newtown played football and basketball in 82-83. Walt Dropo played baseball, football and basketball back in the late 40's...

Don't have to go back that far to the Dark Ages.

The good news for Greg is he was playing during the 80's original JC teams and he was able to play baseball early March…….lol…….if he played hoops now he would miss the southern swoon and then some with all the success!

Didn't John Crisp play two sports until he got booted out of school because of the vending machine incident?

Can't tell you how much I enjoy reading about the football success in recruiting so far - even though it's on the hoops board. Honestly, I don't spend a lot of time on the football board and I really do appreciate it when folks come over and talk about some of the apparently great things going on with the FB program. After all, they are our biggest and most important ticket out of the AAC. Gotta say, Warde has not only hit some home runs with what he did with Ollie and Diaco, but I'd call them grand slams.

I can't give Warde any credit for Ollie. That was all Calhoun. That said, I'm not going to knock his handling of the situation either.

Diaco is all Warde. Sounds like he nailed it with that one, as far as recruiting/PR goes. Hopefully it translates to the field and the win column. Obviously, Diaco will need some time to get his guys through the pipeline.

I was actually referring to the contract extension. But you are absolutely correct - JC chose his heir apparent...

You know, a scrappy 6'6" guy would actually be the perfect 11th man for next year's team. I'm sure spring enrollment and somehow playing hoops this year is a complete and utter pipe dream, but it sure would be nice.

“I do not have a favorite right now between football and basketball but I feel I could play both at the next level.” McLean said. “It can be difficult at times to balance both but I have been doing it for a while now and I'm starting to get used to it and have been able to dedicate time to both.”

That was last August. While it seems he has chosen football now he doesn't seem opposed to the challenge of both.

If I was a football coach I would not let my player near the basketball team if he was only going to be an 11th man. Dude needs to focus on where his scholarship is coming from. Unless you are a difference maker like a Charlie Ward or a freak who does not need to put in work to be great like Julius Peppers, do not play football and basketball.

Wouldn't it be nice if threads actually followed a topic. and frankly "new commit" on the hoop board is distracting. For those having trouble finding the football board look under forums and select football.

The "new commit" was Mau looking to stir up some , I would guess. Not that he's ever done anything like that before.

I think Diaco will be very good, but this recruiting group is a depressing status on UConn's position. Did we beat out any P5 schools or any that aren't the bottom 20% P5?

I read we beat out Bucknell and Hofstra for the QB. Awesome.

You would love to beat out ND, Michigan, Miami and other big guns for players but he and hid staff have just started. They have goals on players and what they want from size, ability, potential and such. We've seen plenty of success from players in basketball we scratched our heads on so patience will be a must for Diaco and crew. I think it's a great start that he's already sold kids on UConn very well.

You sound like all the naysayers on the football board. Most all of the kids that have been drafted in the NFL from Uconn in recent years were very similar coming out of HS. They all have projectable frames, smart, athletic and very driven to make the team better. I am happy with the 7 commits on board thus far. Who cares who else has offered them? There are plenty of kids that go to P5 schools that will never sniff the NFL. Come to Uconn with a chance to actually see the field, develop (by all accounts the new S&C guy/program has transformed the kids currently on the roster already). Recruiting is a crap shoot mostly. Coaches evaluate, project, and look for potential. You can't teach size and all these kids have that. Have some faith people!
