No, I'm talking about 2011, when we won a National Championship and we still can't sell out games.
The economy has been in the crapper since 2008, contrary to what the Obama socialists might tell you.

Some hard core traditionalists don't like the new logo....the same people who read the Hartford Courant online. Those fans who have an emotional attachment to the logo are not going to stop following UConn if the logo changes.

All non partial observers have told me that the puppy dog with the tongue hanging out was lame and that UConn needed a change. They also have told me the new logo is MUCH better.

I am willing to wager that 90% of recruits prefer the new logo.

Bottom line...UConn won't lose 1 fan with the new logo...but the new one may help in recruting and win over some new fans. And if you don't think recruits care about his stuff you are wrong.
Wow, that's a real good example of hard data. "All non-partial observers have told me". You have spoken to all the non-partial observers? How did you manage that? Sounds like something Santa Claus can do, you know, he knows who's or nice. You have some similar powers? You are probably right about traditionalists continuing to follow UConn. However, you don't get people po'd for no good reason because some people want to "make big changes". They are destroying a lot of goodwill and a lot of brand recognition and it will co$t them. This is undoubtedly the biggest boondoggle the University has perpetrated in my lifetime other than perhaps the new library that had to be rebuilt about three times.

The point is if people are coming in the door why change it. By the way check out this item in the Courant today: http://www.courant.com/sports/hc-vote-which-uconn-logo-do-you-like-best-20130417,0,654211,post.poll
Actually that wasn't your point. Your point was that if the logo sucked people would stay away and thats patently ridiculous. Whether a change of log was needed is an entirely different conversation. I believe it was warranted since our existing logo wasn't an accurate description of the universities mascot but reasonable people can disagree.

Waht a foolish argument. It didn't seem to matter that "it didn't depict the university's mascot" when people were waving it everywhere after 3 national championships in mens basketball and 8 womens titles. And when it was found on countless hats, shirts, pants, jackets, flags, coffee cups. That is a load of crap argument. Hell, the new improved logo doesn't reflect the mascot either. It depicts a masked husky. And while huskies are found in many colors and many combinations, including all white, there are no known animals with blue masks. Now that sounds silly, of course, but so does your argument.

-- “This logo is everything that a Husky is supposed to be — powerful, aggressive, determined. It is looking right through you and saying ‘Do not mess with me,’ ” said women’s basketball head coach Geno Auriemma. “This is a streamlined, fighting dog and I cannot wait for it to be on our uniforms and court.” --

-- “I absolutely love this new Husky Dog logo,” said head men’s basketball coach Kevin Ollie. “It looks fantastic on our uniforms and I know that our fans will love it as much as we do. Our new identity is a look that I know I will be proud to wear.” --

The coaches like it (or do you think they're just selling out with lip service?), the student athletes like it, potential future recruits will probably like it. Better for us in the long run.

Lack of detail in a logo doesn't make it clip art nor a cheap, lazy knock-off. The endless bashing is unreal.
If you've ever actually heard either of these guys speak, you would know that this is corporate speak, written by some public relations flack. Most likely neither Ollie nor Geno ever saw this never mind said it. they were told they were being quoted about the new logo. They likely had no choice, or minimal choice. Geno probably could have said "don't quote me," if he hated it. Ollie would have had less flexibility. But it is simply part of their jobs to say nice things about stuff like this regardless of their personal views. Bottom line is that as long as it doesn't adversely effect their contracts, they are fine with it.

Oh, now are you going to tell me the economy isn't in the crapper?

I'm going to tell you I try not to argue with people who use terms like "Obama socialists," and I sure as heck don't do it in the football forums.

But it is okay for you to personally insult people using crude language right: " I said you were full of when you claimed it was a half-baked logo". Irish you like to dish it out, but the sense I get is you can't take it. Just sayin'

Oh, I don't mind being called a socialist by folks like you because you clearly don't have a strong grasp of economic models. This is just the wrong forum to discuss it.

Because it wasn't a husky, because we want to establish a new brand identity for athletics moving forward, because they want to sell more merchandise, too cater to young recruits who are attracted to shiny things...............
I don't see a need for an identity change, I see a need to maintain and foster traditions here. If so many people say they won't buy items with the new logo I fail to see how they are going to sell more merchandise. The only shiny things recruits are attracted to is money and cars and I would hope we don't deal in that.

I certainly don't mind logo changes but I don't think I'll get over this new logo. I'll stick with old logos. Might have to get a shirt made with that 1959 logo.

I am convinced this new look is completely duckked up. I can't see how it fits in the B1G. We need to go back to the block "C".
